The third annual Tree House

Each turtle, adopted for the cost

“Generous adoption sales for our
2007 event helped to strengthen our
communities by reducing the occur

through counseling, nurturing, edu
cation, and support of numerous
families,” said Turtle Trek commit
tee co-chairperson Sandra Holliday.
“Our goal is to increase awareness,
as well as funds, during this year’s
Turbo Turtle Trek and our Family
Fun Festival promises to be even
more fun.”

with the popular free Family Fun
Festival featuring inflatables,
games, face painting, music, hands-

ity and raise awareness for their
group," Ms. Butler said. “We hope
to increase nonprofit participation
this year, so please contact me if
your organization might be inter
ested in joining us.”
At 1 p.m., adopted rubber turtles,
with lucky numbers, will race to
be first in the turtle trap as they
vie for a list of prizes, including a
four-night Bahamas cruise, a $500
savings bond, an Apple iPhone,
and a chance to win a 2008 Ford
Fusion.

to be fierce, as representatives from
the V.I.T. (Very Important Turtle)
sponsors, such as Barrow Regional

Outlets, and YearOne, gather to
display a whole flotilla of large tur
tles in the First Annual Turbo Tux
and Tiara Turtle Trek , a beauty
contest for the turtles. V.I.Ts will
be encouraged to incorporate their
business design or logo into their
turtle's decoration. Onlookers will
be invited to choose the favorites.
“However, a ‘great time’ isn’t the
only guarantee,” Ms. Holliday con
tinued. “While the great activities
and delicious food might seem to be
the most important thing, numerous
turtle adoptions guarantee funds for
an increasingly important mission.
A $5 adoption provides snacks for
nine children during a supervised
visit with their parents during the
reunification process. A $25 Snap
Pack adoption provides education
al resources/transportation for one
home visit to a family in need. A
$50 Snappers Dozen adoption pro
vides two counseling sessions for a
child sexual abuse victim. A $100
Herd of Turtles adoption provides
forensic interviews to three child
sexual abuse victims.”
Turtle adoptions are available
at The Peoples Bank, Community
Bank & Trust, Hometown
Community Bank, First Piedmont
Bank, Freedom Bank, United
Community Bank, Mountain Valley
Bank, Barrow Regional Medical
Center, Akins, Classic Hair Salon,
Keller Williams and Stansell &

establishment of a Hearing for Appeal Request
by Butler - Murphy LLC/Highland Lakes
Proposed Subdivision. The City of Lula has received
a notice of appeal to the Zoning Board of Appeals
from attorneys representing Butler - Murphy LLC,
Highland Lakes Subdivision. The stated request for
appeal is in regard to a denial of the application for
annexation and zoning by the Lula City Council. The
city established a hearing for the appeal to be heard at
6:00 P.M., Monday, August 4, 2008, at Lula City Hall,
6055 Main Street, Lula, Georgia thus meeting the
requirements and conditions found in Section 13.4 of

1998). The property proposed for annexation and
zoning was identified by applicant as located on
County Line Road, Lula Georgia in Banks County Tax
Map B010062 and B010061 as 43.203 acres in total,

for annexation. Review of the procedural mechanism
prescribed in the zoning ordinance for this hearing
process will serve in the interest of all parties. The City
of Lula encourages your participation in this fair and
equitable process and welcomes your involvement in
this orderly progression of the resolution to this
particular application as allowed by law.
