SMITH Meza, Smith said vows April 12 Sara Miriam Meza, Huanuco, Peru, and Daniel James Smith, Baldwin, were united in marriage April 12, 2008, at Toccoa Falls College, Williams Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Charles Good officiating. The bride is the daughter of Antonio Orlando Meza and Martha Adriana Minaya Meza, Huanuco, Peru. She is the granddaughter of Elisa Herrera de Meza and the late Victor Meza and Ida Villanueva de Minaya and the late Leonidas Minaya, all of Peru. The groom is the son of the late George Clayton Smith and the late Annie Ruth Brown Smith, Baldwin. He is the grandson of the late Logan Sylvester Smith Sr. and the late Lena Stephens Smith, Baldwin, and the late William Randol Brown and the late Sara Lonie Lawrence Brown, Mt. Airy. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Abigail Purcell, Mt. Airy, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids includ ed: Kendra Smith, Lynchburg, Va.; Jessica Smith, Baldwin; and Kayla Smith, Lynchburg, Va. The groomsmen were Caleb Purcell, Mt. Airy; Logan Smith, Lynchburg, Va.; and Elijah Rafael, Lavonia. The ushers were Philip Smith, brother of the groom, Baldwin, and the Rev. Terry Purcell, Mt. Airy. The Rev. Nemesio Rafael provided the sermon, and Dr. Michael Haynes and Dr. Manual Morales gave scrip ture readings. Dr. Samuel Smith, brother of the groom, Lynchburg, Va., was the song leader, and Lisa Smith, Baldwin, was the vocal ist. Hannah Purcell, Mt. Airy, was the candle bearer. Haddon Smith, Lynchburg, Va., was the Bible bear er. Addison Smith, Baldwin, was the ring bearer. Becky Smith, Lynchburg, Va., and Rebecca Purcell, sister of the groom, Mt. Airy, were the wedding coordinators. Following the ceremony, a recep tion was held at Toccoa Falls College, Gate Cottage. The couple resides in Baldwin. The bride graduated from the Colegio La Immaculada Concepcion in Huanuco, Peru, and from the Escuela Academica Profesional de Ciencias Contables y Financieras of the Universidad Nacional Hermilio Valdizan, Huanuco, Peru. She is an accountant and a member of the Colegio de Contadores, Huanuco, Peru. The groom graduated from Habersham Central High School and from Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C., with a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish. He gradu ated from the University of Georgia, Athens, with a master of education degree in foreign language educa tion and from the University of Texas at Austin with a Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics. He is assistant professor of Spanish at Clemson University, Clemson, S.C., where he teaches Spanish and linguistics. The groom's parents were mar ried Aug. 4, 1956, in the same chapel at Toccoa Falls College and held their wedding reception also at Gate Cottage. The groom’s parents’ maid of honor, Dora Lingerfelt, flower girl, Becky Wright, grooms man, Bobby Ervin, and children of bridesmaid Dorothy Tilley and best man Grover Ausburn were in atten dance at the April 12, 2008, wed ding. The groom's maternal aunt, Emma Brown Patten, and paternal aunt, Annie Ruth Wilbanks, repre sented his parents at the wedding. The bride wore an all white floor- length ball gown skirt with five lay ers of fantasy tulle over satin with a lace bodice and long sleeves embroi dered with sequins and pearls. The tulle and satin train was cathedral length and detachable, and the tulle waist-length veil descended from a headband tiara of pearls and crystal. The collar and skirt were ornament ed with appliques embroidered with lace, sequins and pearls. The dress was designed and handmade by the bride's mother in Peru. He will be gready missed by his wife, June, brother, sis ters, nieces, nephews. Masonic broth ers at Phil-Delta 148 in Homer and a host of other friends and family. Our prayers are with his family and all who will greatly miss him. Jerry was a great part of our community and just a great friend to all. The Mike Boyle family was visited this week by Shirley Boyle. Shirley, along with Lois and Sheryl Ledford, are visiting family members and friends in Georgia for a few weeks. The Mike Boyle family, along with Dillon Cantrell, all returned home on Sunday after a week trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida. While there, Mike attended his 20-year class reunion celebration at the Hilton on the beach. We enjoyed staying at the Ron Jon Resort, and seeing many friends in the area. Christopher Crump, Caleb Meeks, and Katlin Parks were baptized on Sunday, June 23, at the home of Jan and Steve Parks. They were received back at Silver Shoals Baptist church for Sunday evening services. We are very proud of these young adults.
