Local community lends helping hand during tragedy A community comes together dur ing bad times. I’m so proud to live in the Hickory Flat Community. On Tuesday night, with all the storms, the community came together in a bad time to help a neighbor. A fallen tree destroyed Mary Bell and Lloyd Echols home. Lloyd passed away. They had been married 30 years and lived in our commu nity even longer. When the fire department and rescue units came, neighbors helped to move trees from the road to get the trucks through. Jackson EMC came to help cut off the power and to help raise the tree off the home. For two to three hours, firefighters and many neighbors worked together with chainsaws to help this fam ily. Then, on Wednesday morning, neighbors came together again to salvage what was left for Mary Bell. I know we lost a great neigh bor in Lloyd and he will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends. Our prayers are with this family and our neighborhood. The commu nity was also saddened last week with the loss of Zac Gardiner. He was born and lived most of his life in the Hickory Flat commu nity. He leaves his parents, sister, grandparents, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends. Zac touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all.
