Outdoors With Skipper
An enjoyable family outing
It was up early in the morning
on the third of July for the five.
The party consisted of Jeff
Davis, along with his mother
Lawana, Dad Clark, and grand
parents Talmadge and Ethel
Ethridge.
This group hails from Colbert.
Talmdage was a pastor for
many years in the St.Augustine,
Florida area and now visits
shut-ins for Bluestone Baptist
Church. He and his wife, as the
senior ones on the trip, both
love to fish and have passed on
that love to the rest of their fam
ily. Their destination was Clarks
Hill lake.
Arriving at Modock around
daylight, Jeff launched his
19-foot boat powered by a 65
horsepower outboard. It wasn’t
long before they found the strip
ers and hybrids schooling on the
surface, in the main river chan
nel. They drifted a bit and then
anchored out. Using live her
ring for bait and free lining, they
were quickly into the fish.
Nothing very large was caught
as the fish averaged one to
three pounds. Some three hours
later, around 9:30 in the morn
ing, things began to slow down.
The total for the morning was
39 fish. That adds up to a lot of
action.
Pastor
Talmadge
claimed
the biggest
fish, though
some others
might have
debated that
claim. Some
of the fish
were eaten
that night.
Doesn’t get
much fresher
than that.
Jeff went back the next day,
and hooked into a monster, at
least for a while. It got into the
trees, and he had to break it off.
Well, there will be a next time.
It’s great to see families
together enjoying each other’s
company and catching fish. To
make it up to his wife Vanetta
and the children, who love to
fish also, Jeff is taking them
camping and fishing the week
end of the 11th.
