Area Death Notices
Cody Cowder
Joseph Cody Gowder, 16, of Alto,
died Saturday, August 2, 2008.
Born in Hall County, he was the
son of Joe Keith Gowder of Alto and
Tammy Irvin Gowder of Atlanta.
He was a member
of Charity Baptist
Church and the
Fellowship of
Christian Athletes.
He played var
sity football and
baseball at Banks
County High
School.
Survivors in addition to his
parents, include a sister Ashley
Gowder, Athens; grandparents,
Bill and Edna Gowder, Maysville,
Dennis and Gail Irvin, Homer;
great-grandmother, Bonnie May
Gowder, Maysville; two uncles; one
aunt; and six cousins.
Funeral services were held
Monday, August 4, at Grove Level
Baptist Church with the Revs. James
McClendon and Bobby Griffin offi
ciating. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Memorial contributions may

Northeast Georgia Bank, P.O. Box

Ernest Simmons
Ernest Leroy Simmons, 76, of
Westminster, S.C., died Tuesday,
July 29, 2008, at his residence.
Born in Banks County on May
9, 1932, he was the son of the late
James and Fannie
Smith Simmons. He
was retired from
Patterson Pump and
then was employed for a number
of years with Quality Foods. He
was Baptist and was a veteran,
having served in the United States
Army during the Korean War. Mr.
Simmons was preceded in death by
his wife, Alice McIntyre Simmons.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Cathy and Ronnie
Holcomb and Cindy Foster, all of
Toccoa, Brenda and Milton Moore,
Eastanollee, sons and daughter-in-
law, Michael and Tammy Simmons,
Mack Simmons, and Ricky Simmons,
all of Toccoa; nine grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren; sisters,
Rose Cantrell, Gainesville, Jennie
Redd, White County, and Linda
Collins, Mt. Airy; and four broth
ers.
Graveside services were held
Saturday, August 2, at Leatherwood
Baptist Church Cemetery with
the Rev. Teddy King officiating.
Pallbearers were David King,
Randall Chatham, Ronnie Holcomb,
Danny Simmons and Larry Moore.
Acree-Davis Funeral Home,
Toccoa, was in charge of arrange
ments.

Born in Banks County on
November 29, 1936, she was the
daughter of the late Owen and
Dicy Lawrence Gibson. She was a
homemaker and was Baptist. Mrs.
Fulghum was preceded in death
by a brother, Travis Gibson; sis
ters, Mildred Gibson and Edith
Watkins.
Survivors include a daughter,
Melodie Daniel, Clarkesville; sister,
Marilyn Spurlock, Toccoa; broth
ers, Roy Gibson, Toccoa, and Fred
Gibson, Homer; four grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, August 2, in the cha
pel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart
Funeral Home with the Rev. Getes
Owens officiating. Burial was in
Demorest City Cemetery.

Imogene Sanders
Imogene Sanders, 86, of Powder
Springs, formerly of Banks County,
died Sunday, August 3. 2008.
Survivors include her husband of
68 years, James Sanders, Powder
Springs; sons and daughters-in-
law, Jerry and Carolyn Sanders,
Carnesville, and Harry and Erika
Sanders, Locust Grove; grandchil
dren, Scott and Nicole Sanders,
Jennifer and Tony Shackleford,
David and Neeta Sanders, Kimberly
and John Kosky; Doris Cash, moth
er of grandchildren David and
Kimberly; and five great-grandchil
dren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, August 5, at Clarksdale
Methodist Church with the Rev.
Darrell McGinnis officiating. Burial
was at Powder Springs Cemetery.

Evelyn Demarest
Evelyn Demarest, 72, of
Springdale, Ark., formerly of
Commerce, died Friday, August 1,
2008.
She was born June 18, 1936, in
Jackson, the daughter of the late
Bill and Clara Howington Archer.
She was retired from food service.
Survivors include sons, Chris
Demarest, Springdale, Ark., Scott
Demarest, Jackson, Miss., and
Richard Demarest, Little Rock,
Ark.; daughters, Donna Henry,
Bryan, Ark., and Retta Harrison,
Springfield, Ala.; brother, Jerry
Archer, Commerce; sister, Betty
Jean Ayers, Homer; 12 grandchil
dren; and three great-grandchil
dren.
Graveside services were held
Tuesday, August 5, at the Grey
Hill Cemetery with the Rev. David
Fitzpatrick officiating.

Florene Fulghum, 71, of Toccoa,
died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at
Stephens County Medical Center,
following an extended illness.

Thursday, July 31, at Timber Ridge
Baptist Church with the Revs. Dean
