Equine management planned
Master Equine Management
Training, an advanced training
conducted by UGA Cooperative
Extension and cooperators to
inform horse owners about many
topics critical to starting and man
aging a horse related business, is
planned for Banks County.
Some topics to be discussed are:
soil, water and pasture manage
ment, horse health, economics of
the industry, barn and arena design
and general management practices.
The training will begin October
14, and meet each Tuesday begin
ning at 6 p.m. until November
25. The training will be held at
the Commerce Civic Center. Study
material, proceedings of the meet
ings, refreshments, embroidered
cap, door prizes and a Master
Equine Management Certificate
will be included in the tuition. The
tuition will be $150 per person.
In addition to the subject matter
information presented, there will
be information about federal and
state cost share programs that can
be used on farms.
The class is designed for horse
owners, trainers, instructors, board
ing stable managers and breeding
farms. The training is open to any
one but is targeted to residents of
Banks, Madison, Franklin, Jackson
and Barrow Counties. The class is
limited to the first 75 who send in
their paid registration. The registra
tion deadline is October 1.

Allison Faith David
Michael and Myra David,
Nicholson, announce the birth of
a daughter, Allison “Allie” Faith
David on May 24, 2008, at St.
Mary’s Hospital, Athens.
She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces,
and was 19.75 inches long.
She joins a brother, John David,
20, and a sister, Jessica David, 18.
The grandparents are Loretta
Barnes, Commerce, and the late
Travis Barnes, and Hayden David,

Nicholson, and the late Sarah
David.
USDA food distribution planned
Ninth District Opportunity, Inc.,
in cooperation with local volunteers,
will be hosting a surplus food distri
bution at the American Legion Hall
in Homer on Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. This is on a first-come, first-
serve basis.
Individuals with qualifying income
will be eligible to receive food from
the USDA surplus food distribution
free of charge.
Income guidelines per month are:
one in home, $1,127; two in home,
$1,517; three in home, $1,907; and
four in home, $2,297.
