She was a member of the Zebulon Baptist Church and was a seamstress, Mrs. Gordon was pre ceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Garland; and sister, Ethlyn Chatham. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ed Taylor, Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, James and Barbara Gordon, Altoona, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Liz and Tom Wells, Ft. Mill, S.C.; seven grandchil dren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, Funeral services were held Sunday, August 10, at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Rev, Brian James officiating. The Banks County News, August 14. 2008. Lutrell Wilson Lutrell Gipson Wilson, 93, of Cornelia, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Habersham County Medical Center, following an extended illness. Born in Banks County on January 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Sarah Ledford Gipson. She enjoyed crocheting, canning and anything involving crafts, loved ones stated. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Burke; sons-in-law, Pat Bowen and John Burke; sisters, Estell Parson and Ethel Slaton; brothers, Earl F. Gipson, Earnest D. Gipson, Dillard N. Gipson and M.D. Gipson; and a great-grandson, Sean Bollinger. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Bowen, Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Anita Wilson, Gainesville; sisters, Ruby Lee Owensby, California, and Annie Bertha Shubert, Commerce; brother, George Dewey Gipson, Batesville; grandchildren, Patrick Bowen, Lynn Goss, Belinda Baragona, Bonnie Bollinger, Marisa Dale, Peggy Roach, Sandy Burke, John Burke Jr„ Keith Dodgins and Debra Hall; 22 great grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 9, in the chapel of McGahee- Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev Matt Wethington offici ating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Maxey Ladd officiating. Grant, 88, of Gillsville, died Monday, August 11, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, following a short illness. She was born in New York, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Butler Yorston, She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was retired from real estate sales. Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Lynn Grant. Survivors include her husband, Richard Grant, Gillsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Maggie and Tom Burns, Monterey, Calif., Inez Grant and Bill O’Entremont, Gillsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Grant Jr. and Maureen, Davie, Florida, Russell and Ellyn Grant, Vero Beach, Fla.; grandson, Samuel, Gillsville; grand daughters, Kristin and Marissa, both of Juniper, Fla,, and Lauren, Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Carter and Hayden; brother, Howard Yorston, Houston, Texas; nieces, Carla Shreve, Galt, Calif,, and Michelle Goffin, Palm Springs, Calif; and a host of other family and friends. Bennie Broom Bennie Broom, 70, of Baldwin, died Monday, August 4, 2008, following a brief illness, A Habersham County native, he was born on May 24, 1938, the son of the late Emory and Evalou Smith Broom. He was a self employed car penter and a member of Crossroads Holiness Church, Mr, Broom was pre ceded in death by his wife, Joyce Herron Broom. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Laverne and Clinton Jones, Demorest, and Tina Canup, Clarkesville; sons and daughter-in- law, Daniel Broom, Clarkesville, Chris and Crystal Broom, Hollywood; brothers, Emory “M” Broom, Jr. and Walter Broom, both of Gainesville, J.C. Broom, Danielsville, and Luther Broom, Murrayville; sisters, Lila Gaines, Martha Loggins, Katie Cochran and Louise Malando, all of Gainesville; and seven grandchildren. Baker, 60, of 3400 Hwy, 63, Carnesville, died Friday, August 1, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospice House. Born in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Carey D. and Dorothy Byrd Baker and was married to Beverly Lewallen Baker. Ron was a veter an of the United States Marine Corps,, having served in Vietnam. He received four Purple Heart med als, the Medal of Combat V, and the Bronze Star. Survivors along with his wife, include daughters, Alisha and Shane Roberts and Kayla Segars, all of Carnesville, brother, Don Baker, Five Points, Ala.; sisters, Kathy Brannon and Debbie Warburton, both of Lawrenceville, and Sheree Mayo, Gainesville; grandchildren, Morgan Roberts, Maribeth Roberts and Matthew Roberts; an aunt, Blanche Hodges, Dothan, Ala.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 3, at Nails Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwayne Eller officiating.
