Beyond the playing field...
BCHS Marching Band also prepares during summer for new season
The 2008 Banks County High School Marching Band
“The Banks County High
School marching band is
bred up and ready to start a
new and exciting year!”
Those are the words of
director Jon Congdon as he
and his staff have put togeth
er a fun and exciting march
ing band show for their half

“We are so thankful to
have such a wonderful
community supporting the
marching band,” Congdon
said this summer as he and
the BCHS band prepared for
the 2008 season. “The band
thought long and hard about
this year’s marching band
show. They wanted to con

crowd with familiar music.”
The director said the
theme for the program this
year was a tough task be
cause each song was so dif
ferent from the others.
“Music on the Edge” has
to do with the history and
the story behind each song.
“They sincerely hope you
enjoy this year’s show,”
Congdon said.
“Music on the Edge” will
feature the songs: “Fat Bot
tomed Girls” by Queen,
“Can’t Buy Me Love” by

Kickoff Special a team effort
Just as the game of football is a team sport, so is the production of the annual kickoff
special of The Banks County News. Sports editor Chris Bridges wishes to extend thanks
to Jana Mitcham for her assistance in designing the front page of this special section
and to Lyn Sengupta and Randy Crump for their photography skills. Special thanks also
goes to BCHS head football coach Blair Armstrong and his coaching staff for allowing
Bridges complete access when it comes to covering the Leopard program.
New season continued from page IB

numerous hours in the weight
room during the offseason
months as well as showing up
off conditioning. Players at
tended specialized camps and
took part in programs such as
Gladiator Wars at the BCHS
practice facility.
All of these activities, Arm
strong said, will make the pro
gram more successful this fall.
BCHS opens the new season
Aug. 29 on the road against
Washington Wilkes, the team
that ended the Leopards’ sea
son in the region playoffs a
