If you push the remote on the television, you’ll find Dr. Phil and Oprah, or you’ll find an infomercial for a product that is supposed to be the greatest thing ever invented. Even as Christians, some times we get caught up with the latest fad. In actuality, we have access to the answers of life’s issues and problems at the palm of our hands. The question is: are we willing to open the book of treasures and find our answers? My pastor, Winfred Bingham, is doing a series of messages in the book of James and this week he told us about James 1:5 which says, “ If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” He reminded us that Godly wisdom is found in the Word of God. Just think about it. There is an answer for any situation or circumstance in which we find ourselves. When we need to know how to treat our fam ily; if we need help in our job: if we want to know how to treat people, we can find it in the word of God. Many times the answer we find in the Word is not what the world would tell us. For instance, when talk ing about giving. It would seem that the sensible thing would be to hold tightly to everything we have if we want to get rich. That’s not what it says in the word of God. Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you.” So if we want God to give to us, we need to be giving to others. I’m also reminded of Mat thew 6:14 which says,” For if you forgive others when they sin against you, your heav enly Father will also forgive you.” I know I need God to forgive me, so I need to be quick to forgive others. Also, the Bible warns us about judging others. Matthew 7:1 tells us not to judge oth ers or we too will be judged in the very same way. In verse three of that same chapter, we are reminded that while we may see a speck of sawdust in someone else’s eye, we’d bet ter check out the plank in our own eye. My prayer is that we will also seek to find His wisdom in every issue that we face. While this world and its ad vice will pass away, the word of God will stand f orever.
