Heating assistance program I Gillsville Baptist Pioneer Club recognized
is now taking applications
The Georgia Department
of Human Resources is help
ing some households pay for
heating costs.
Households in which every
member is 65 and older or in
which every member is com
pletely unable to leave the
home due to health reasons,
may apply for assistance
with their home heating bills,
starting Nov. 3.
One-time payments will be
made by checks issued to the
home energy suppliers on be
half of eligible households.
Eligibility for the program
is
based on the income of
everyone living in the home.
All eligible households must
be responsible for their home
heating bill.
When applying for as
sistance, persons will be
required to present verifica
tion of age for everyone in
the home, verification of all
household income received
within the past 30 days
(check stubs, public assis
tance checks, unemployment
checks, etc.), verification of
Social Security numbers for
everyone in the home, and
the most recent home heat
ing bill.
Depending on the avail
ability of funds, the regular
program will open to the
general public on Dec. 1.
All interested applicants
are asked to contact Christy
Hill at Ninth District Oppor
tunity, Inc., after 8:30 a.m.
by calling 706-677-3921 on
the date of the program they
qualify for.

Library boards to meet Tuesday
The Piedmont Regional
Board of Library Trustees will
meet on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at
3:30 p.m., at the Pendergrass
Public Library.
The regional board serves
Jackson, Barrow and Banks
counties.
Also, the Jackson County
Board of Library Trustees will
meet on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at
2 p.m., at the Pendergrass Li
brary.
The Pendergrass Library is
located at 41 Blackberry Lane.
Rabies clinic set Flu shots to be offered Fri.
A rabies clinic will be
held in Maysville from 10
a.m. to noon at the city park
in Maysville on Saturday,
Oct. 18.
Discounted rabies vac
cines will be offered for $8
each.
The Banks County Health Department has flu shots available
to adults for $25.
They will accept cash, check, Medicaid and Medicare. Flu shots
will be given at the health department Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
A flu clinic will be held on Friday, October 10 at Banks County
Middle School from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. They will be able to serve
special needs people at the clinic through a drive-up service.

urday. The children were
so excited. The Pioneer
Club meets on Wednesday
nights at 6 p.m. at the church.

Congratulations to the
Banks County football teams
this week with the varsity
win over East Jackson High
School and the junior varsity
win on Thursday. The varsity
team will be open on Friday
night but the junior varsity
team will play Towns County
on Thursday at home.
Kenny and Joyce Crumley,
along with Mary Parson, en
joyed a few days in the moun
tains of Tennessee. They had
an enjoyable time.
Ruth Parson, along with
Kenneth and Betty Parson,
enjoyed the weekend in the
North Carolina and Tennes
see mountains. They had a
great time.
The community was sad
dened to hear of the death of
Brenda Irvin Smith. Brenda
was raised in our commu
nity and has many brothers
and sisters still living here.
She will be greatly missed

Maysville library plans fund-raiser
The Maysville Public Li
brary will have a Tupperware
fund-raiser kick-off from 10:30
a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday,
Oct. 18, at the library.
“Please come support the li
brary,” organizers state. “Tup

gifts for weddings, Christma
or for yourself.”
