Brown, Irvin deaths sadden community
The community was
saddened to hear of the
death of Carrie Sims
Brown and her niece,
Edna Louise Sims Irvin.
Ms. Brown has many ties
to Banks County she was
the sister of the late Ned
Sims of Gillsville. Mrs. Irvin was the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ned Sims. With many
brothers and sisters nieces, nephews class
mates and friends in our community, they both
will be greatly missed. Remember this family
during this time of their lives in the loss of two
of their family members. I want them to know
they’re in our prayers.
Those in our community who are overseas
fighting or state-side being trained to defend
our country include: Mrs. Jay Tumlin, Dustin
Holcombe, Matthew Ledford, Jason Ledford,
Pvt. Nathon Bagwell, Gary Hogman, Jason

Annual chocolate fair set Nov. 10
The Banks County Conven
tion and Visitors Bureau invites
everyone out to the fourth an
nual CVB Chocolate Fair on
Nov. 10 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30
p.m. in the Community Room
at the Tanger Town Centre at
Banks Crossing.
The fair is a competition for
amateur bakers in which par
ticipants bring their chocolate
creation entries and each entry
is judged by a panel of judges
and prizes are awarded to the
participants with the winning
entries.
The categories for the judg
ing are: Best Overall Choco
late Entry Winner, $100; Most
Creative Chocolate Creation
Winner, $100; and Choco
holics Choice Award Winner,
$100.
There will also be two new
categories for the 2008 Choco
late Fair. They are: Best Sugar
Free Chocolate Entry Winner,
$100, and Best Parent/Child
(age 12 and under) Entry Win
ner, $100.
Not only are the entries
sampled and judged by the
panel of judges. Everyone at
tending the fair gets to sample
all the entries and vote on their
favorite chocolate dish to de
termine the winner of the Peo
ple’s Chocolate Choice Award
Winner, $100.
The entry fee is $25 for
those aged 13 and older for
up to two entries. And, the en
try fee is $10 for Patent/Child
(age 12 and under) teams for
up to two entries.
Tickets to attend the choco
late fair are $5 in advance and
$7 at the door with children 12
and under admitted free.

ployees will host a “Ride For
Life” to benefit the American
Cancer Society on Saturday,
Oct. 25, beginning at the EMC
office complex at 850 Com
merce Road in Jefferson.
Registration will begin at 9
a.m. and riders will depart at
10 a.m. Riders will be charged
a registration fee of $30 for
solo riders and $35 for two
and up.
Motorcyclists participating
in the event will receive a ride
T-shirt and lunch, and enjoy
entertainment, door prizes and
a 50/50 drawing at the ride’s
start. The police-escorted ride
will leave the EMC offices for
a leisurely ride through the
countryside, take a lap around
the Peach State Speedway
track and end up at the Atlanta
Dragway in Commerce, where
bikers will get to make a pass
down the drag strip before
lunch is served.

Banks County Youth Deer
hunt taking applications
The Georgia Department of
Natural Resources announces
that applications will now be
taken for the annual Banks
County Youth Deer Hunt to
be held at the Windmill Farm
location.
Applicants should be of
hunting age and not over 16
years of age, and must be ac
companied by an adult. Adults
must be at least 18 years old.
All participants, youth and
adults, must possess a Hunter
Education Certificate before
application will be accepted.
All other eligibility require
ments and hunt rules are listed
on the application. Applica
tions can be picked up at the
Banks County Extension Of
fice, Shuler’s Great Outdoors
- Commerce location, and the
Commerce Wal-Mart store.
Applicants will be entered in
a drawing for a chance to par
ticipate in the hunt that will be
held Nov. 28 and 29. All ap
plications must be completed,
signed and submitted to the
Banks County Extension Of
fice located at 413 Evans
Street in Homer no later then
4:30 p.m., Nov. 4. The phone

Applicants who are drawn
for the hunt will be required to
attend a safety and orientation
meeting to be held on Nov. 9
at 12 p.m.
