God wants us to bless others
As Christians we
are given an awe
some opportunity to
be involved in the
Lord's work. We
can heed his call or
we can go about our
business without
giving it much more
than a thought.
Almost each and
every day we are
going to see people in need.
We can stop and help or we
can pass them by. At other
times the Holy Spirit will bring
someone to our minds. We can
stop and pray for that person or
just let it be a passing thought.
He may call us to send a card,
make a telephone call, bake a
cake, take someone to lunch, or
numerous other things.
We should ask ourselves this
question. Are we living for to
day or are we investing in eter
nity? From our point of view
these could be small almost
meaningless gestures, but we
need to remember one thing.
When God uses these things
to accomplish His will, they
can really make a difference in
someone's life.
I’m reminded of when Jesus
fed the multitudes in Matthew
14:13-21. The multitude had
followed Jesus that day and he
had healed the sick. When eve
ning came the disciples asked
Jesus to send the multitude into
town to eat, but Jesus had other
plans. He told the disciples to
feed them. They must have
scurried around to see what
they could come up with and
what they found was a lad who
was willing to give up his five
loaves and two fishes.
Now, if it were me and I had
such a small amount of food,
I would have probably been
embarrassed to even offer it to
Jesus. But the boy,
with his childlike
faith, was willing
to offer what he had
that day. And Jesus
used it to produce
a miracle that is re
corded in all four
gospels.
When the disci
ples told Jesus about
the food, he asked
them to bring it to him. At that
point, he commanded the mul
titude to sit down on the grass,
and he took the loaves and fish
es and looked up to heaven. He
blessed the food, broke it and
gave it to the disciples. Then
they fed the multitude. The ta
ble tells us that they all did eat,
and were filled, and when they
took up what was left, twelve
baskets remained.
That day Jesus had proven
that not only could he heal
them of their illnesses, he could
provide for their basic needs as
well. And to do all of this, all
he needed was what one little
boy could provide.
Just remember the next time
you feel God urging you to
do something that may seem
insignificant—go ahead and
do it. Remember God can take
the small things and do great
things. The question is do we
want to be used by God? Do
we want to have a part in a mir
acle in someone's life? It could
be as simple as encouraging
someone that everything is go
ing to be okay: or it could be as
awesome as leading someone
to know Christ as their person
al Savior.
