Chambliss letter continued from page 4A
the Dwight D. Eisenhower
Army Medical Center at Fort
Gordon, the Charlie Norwood
VA Medical Center, and the ca
pabilities that exist at the Medi
cal College of Georgia School
of Nursing for providing train
ing for personnel responsible
for caring for and managing
care Wounded Warriors.
Senator Chambliss co-au-
thored a provision in the FY09
National Defense Authoriza
tion Act (Public Law 110-417)
mandating improved oversight,
reporting, bonding levels, and
best practices for DoD hous
ing privatization projects. This
provision, based on a bill filed
by Sen Chambliss and Senator
Mark Pryor, D-Ark„ is in re
sponse to failed housing priva
tization projects at Moody and
Little Rock Air Force Bases
and aims to require more strin
gent oversight of these projects
to ensure that similar situations
never occur again.
Senator Chambliss led the
effort in 2007 to authorize a
multi-year contract for F-22
aircraft as requested by the
Defense Department. Sena
tor Chambliss filed an amend
ment to the FY07 National De
fense Authorization Act which
passed 70-28 even though it
was opposed by the Chairman
and Ranking Member of the
Senate Armed Services Com
mittee. Final assembly for the
F-22 occurs in Marietta, Ga..
In the 109th Congress Sena
tor Chambliss argued against
and successfully overturned the
Department of Defense’s pro
posal to terminate the C-130J
multi-year contract and the
F-22 program. Both aircraft
are manufactured by Lockheed
Martin in Marietta, Ga..
Senator Chambliss has
served as a strong advocate for
all of Georgia’s military bases
and with Senator Chambliss’
help the State of Georgia has
typically been one of the top six
recipients among the 50 States
for military construction fund
ing.
Senator Chambliss authored
a provision in the FY08 Nation
al Defense Authorization Act
(Public Law 110-181) allowing
members of the Armed Forces
to accrue additional leave and
allowing service members lon
ger to use leave they have ac
crued before losing it.
Senator Chambliss has truly
been a strong supporter of our
troops and for Georgia in his
capacity as a member of the
Senate Armed Services Com
mittee. We need his continued
leadership in the United States
Senate.
Senator Chambliss worked
diligently to prevent the “Em
ployee Free Choice act” which
would eliminated secret ballots
for union votes.
Senator Chambliss is a strong
supporter of the “Fair Tax” pro
posal. In this plan, every fed
eral tax that’s reflected in your
paycheck would be eradicated.
No income tax. No Social Se
curity tax. No Medicare tax.
In essence, every time you get
paid by your employer, you get
to keep every penny you earn.
The federal government no lon
ger gets to swoop in and take a
chunk from you and your fam
ily. It’s your money. You get
to keep it. In addition to that,
there are no capital gains taxes,
no death taxes, no alternative
minimum taxes, no corporate
taxes, and no self-employment
taxes. Recent television ads tar
geted against Senator Chamb
liss have grossly misrepresent
ed this proposal.
I hope that on November 4
you will consider the interests
of you and your state and return
Saxby Chambliss to the Sen
ate.
Sincerely,
Clyde A. McArthur
Chairman, Banks County
Republican Party
