Sarah Leverett
Sarah Blondine Caudell
Leverett, 81, of Lula, died
Saturday, October 25, 2008, at
the Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville.
She was bom on September
23, 1927, in Franklin County,
the daughter of the late Lam
and Maude Crowe Caudell. She
lived most of her life in Stephens
County and the past 18 years
in Lula. She was retired from
Milliken Flumphrey Plant and
was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Lula. Mrs. Leverett
was preceded in death by a
daughter, Dianne Wheeler.
Survivors include her hus
band, Ross Leverett, Lula; son
and daughter-in-law, Danny and
Kathy Leverett, Toccoa; five
grandchildren; five great-grand
children; sister, Bessie “Beck”
Kirby, Toccoa; brother, Dwain
Caudell, Toccoa; half-brother,
Carl Caudell, Titusville, Fla.; and
a number of nieces and neph
ews.
Funeral services were held
Monday, October 27, at Flillcrest
Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral
Home with the Revs. Jerrell
Beatty and Michael Smith offi
ciating. Burial was in Toccoa
City Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Dwight Griffin, Billy Mealor,
Lamar Davis, Larry Nix, Kevin
Leverett and Rodney Burdette.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the First Baptist Church
of Lula, 5767 Maiden Lane, Lula,
Ga. 30554.

Minnie Mae
Payne
Minnie Mae Payne, 87, of
Baldwin, died Sunday, October
26, 2008, at her residence follow
ing an extended illness.
She was bom in Flabersham
County on November 28, 1920,
the daughter of the late Joe and
Mae Tow York. She worked at
Carwood Manufacturing with 25
years of service and Mt. Vernon
Mills with 12 years of service,
and was Baptist. Mrs. Payne was
preceded in death by her husband,
John Henry Payne; step-mother,
Lillie York McDonald; brothers,
Joe York Jr. and J.D. York; and a
sister. Dot Umberhant.
Survivors include daughters,
Helen Howell, Carolyn Helton
and Mary Jordan, all of Baldwin,
Vivian Hicks, Mt. Airy; a son,
Dwane Heaton, Baldwin; broth
ers, Lawrence York, Mt. Airy,
and Lloyd York, Toccoa; sis
ters, Frances Umberhant,
Cornelia, Lessie Finnigan, Texas,
Margie Rabb, Jefferson, Hilda
Mewborne, Mt. Airy, Betty
Loggins, Hollywood, and Linda
York, Toccoa; 15 grandchildren;
several great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, October 29 in the
Baldwin Congregational Holiness
Church with Pastor John Graham
and the Rev. Sanford Kimbrell
officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery.

charge of arrangements.
Heather Reimer
Heather Lea Jones Reimer, 30,
of Seattle, Wash, (formerly of
Forsyth County), died Friday,
October 17, 2008.
She was the daughter of
Jacqueline Jones of Cumming and
father and step-mother, Bobby
and Dotti Jones of Maysville.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, October 25, in the
chapel of Ingram Funeral Home
with Dr. Michael Cash and the
Rev. Dugar Strickland officiat
ing. Burial was in Holly Hill
Cemetery in Fairburn.

David
McKinney
David Clayton McKinney, 67,
of Griffin, formerly of Banks
County, died Wednesday, October
22, 2008, at Christian Ministries
Hospice in Griffin.
He was born in Sunbury, Pa., on
July 19, 1941, the son of the late
Warren Henry and Mary Hoover
McKinney. He was a member
of the Apostolic
Church of the HBb
Lord Jesus Christ
of Barnesville
and was retired from the United
States Army, having served in
the Vietnam War. He was a mem
ber of American Legion Post
215 and was also a member of
the VFW. Mr. McKinney was
preceded in death by his wife,
Anjelika Decker McKinney; and
a nephew, Brian Mathers.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, Thomas and
Rhonda McKinney, Griffin;
grandchildren, Samantha,
Madison and Autumn McKinney,
and Jennifer Blair; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Lola and Norm
Lane, Ocala, Fla., Penny and
Steven Dunkelberger and Nonna
McKinney, all of Sunbury, Pa.;
nephews, Keith Mathers, Shelby
Mathers, Jason Dunkelberger,
Kyle Dunkelberger and Jamie
Stiely.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, October 25, in the cha
pel of Conner-Westbury Funeral
Home in Griffin with the Revs.
Richard Adams and David Goins
officiating. Burial was in Oak
Hill Cemetery with full military
honors.

Gladys Phillips
Gladys Geneva Brown Phillips,
72, of Gainesville, died Tuesday,
October 28, 2008, at the home of
her niece.
She was bom on May 13, 1936,
in Banks County where she lived
most of her life, and was the
daughter of the late Brazzie and
Maggie Chumbler Brown. Mrs.
Phillips was preceded in death
by her husband, J.D. Phillips, and
was a member of Chopped Oak
Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother
and sister-in-law, Swayne and
Brenda Brown, Clairmont; niece
in which she made her home,
Janice Bryant, Gainesville; and a
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Friday, October 31, at 2 p.m.,
at the Chopped Oak Baptist

Henderson
William Samuel “W.S.”
Henderson II, 96, of Gillsville,
died Saturday, October 25, 2008,
at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center, following a brief illness.
Born in Jackson County, he was
the son of the late
William Samuel
Henderson Sr.
and Rose Suddath
Henderson. He
was a retired bus driver from
Greyhound Corporation and was
a member of the Midway United
Methodist Church. He was for
mer president of Amalmated
Transit Authority, a member
of the Masonic Lodge, and a
gentleman fanner. He was a vet
eran, having served in the United
States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in
death by his wife of 57 years. Sue
House Henderson, wife Mary
Evelyn Chandler Henderson;
daughter, Janet Pratt; brothers,
Howard Henderson, Lawrence
Henderson and John Henderson.
Survivors include sons, the Rev.
William S. "Sam” Henderson
III, Newnan, Joe E. Henderson,
Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter,
Suzanne Haulbrook, Gillsville;
brother, Tom Henderson,
Gainesville; 11 grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and
three great-great-grandchildren;
and caregiver Aida Benitez,
Gainesville.
Funeral services were held
Monday, October 27, at the
Midway United Methodist
Church with the Revs. Sam
Henderson, Howard Bledsoe and
Earl Pirkle officiating. Burial was
in Pine Grove Baptist Church
cemetery.

Charley S. Cato, 66, of
Gainesville, died Wednesday,
October 22, 2008.
Born in Atlanta, he was the son
of the late Home Mozell and Sara
Richard Cato.
Mr. Cato was the father of
Lynn Montgomery of Lula.

held Friday, October 24, in the
chapel of Memorial Park Funeral
home with the Revs. Dwayne
Wellborn and Rich Galliger offi
ciating. Entombment was in the
Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Samuel Wood
Samuel Marvin Wood, 50,
of Hoschton, died Thursday,
October 23, 2008.
He was a member of
Rock Baptist Tabernacle in
Lawrenceville.
Mr. Wood was the brother of Jan
and John Johnson, Maysville.

Kay Cochran
Kay S. Cochran, 45, of
Dahlonega, died Monday,
October 27, 2008, at her resi
dence.
She was the daughter of Emily
Simmons of Alto and the late
Branson Heal'd Simmons.
Mrs. Cochran was the sister
of Wendell Simmons of Alto
and Kenneth Simmons of Banks
County.

Wednesday, October 29, in the

Dahlonega with the Rev. James
Harvey officiating.

Rose Reed
Rose Jordan Reed, 92, of
Chicopee Community, died
Friday, October 17, 2008.
She was the daughter of the late
Josiah Glenn and Anna Rebecca
Jordan.
Mrs. Reed was the mother of
Kay and Gates Scoville of Lula.

Sunday, October 26, in the cha
pel of the First Baptist Church in
Gainesville with Dr. Bill Coates
officiating.

James Addis
James Edward Addis, 82,
of Clarkesville, died Sunday,
October 26, 2008.
Born on December 28, 1925, in
Towns County, he was the son of
the late Arthur and Lola Allison
Addis.
Mr. Addis was the grandfather
of Amanda Anderson of Alto.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, October 29, at
Macedonia Baptist Church with
the Revs. Leon Miller, Paris
Whitworth, Raymond Payne and
James Mize officiating.

Willie Hughes
Willie James Hughes Jr., 59,
of Lula, died Monday, October
27, 2008.
Born in Elbert County on
January 21, 1949, he was the
son of Willie Hughes Sr. of Lula,
and the late Nancy Flannigan
Hughes. He was a member of
Mt. Zion Baptist Church and also
attended Free Chapel Worship
Center. He was employed with
Synthetic Industries with 37
years of dedicated service. He
was a loving husband, father and
grandfather, and was an avid fish
erman and enjoyed gardening,
loved ones stated.
Survivors in addition to his
father include his wife, Linda
Mance Hughes, Lula; daughters
and son-in-law, Tanya Hughes,
Lula, and Tierya Hughes and
Jeremy Brown, Oakwood; sons,
Eric Williams, Augusta, and
Terrance Hughes, Lula; grand
children, Anterrius Hughes,
Desmond Williams, Terrance
R. Hughes, Makiah Few, Deja
Williams and Kyle Hughes;
uncles, George Bell and Amy,
Clarkesville, and Irvin Chappel,
Atlanta, B.C. Mance, Toccoa;
aunt, Katie Richie, Toccoa;
sisters-in-law, Sharon Dooley,
Cornelia, and Tina and Neal
Dorsey, Helen; brothers-in-law.

Henry Mance, Atlanta, and
Tommy Davis, Cornelia; special

Thursday, October 30, at 3 p.m.,
at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with
Pastor Roger Stephens officiat
ing. Burial will be in Clarkesville
City Cemeteiy. Pallbearers will
be Ray Davis, Henry Davis,
Swayne Faulkner, Tommy Davis
and James Andrews. The family
will receive friends at the funeral
home Wednesday from 6 to 9
p.m.
