Plum Smith Jr., Stockbridge, was driving a tractor trailer on 1-85 when he attempted to change lanes and lost control, according to the incident report filed with the Georgia State Patrol. He struck a cable barrier and then traveled up an embankment where he struck several trees and overturned. A woman, identified by the driver as Mi chelle Ford, was killed in the accident, ac cording to Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman. Chapman said her body is at the crime lab in Atlanta and the investigation is continuing. MVP continued from page 1A on Nov. 17 that 20 to 30 males were in the park ing lot fighting around 2:15 to 2:20 a.m. and shots were fired.” Bryant said he responded to the incident and it was later determined that a gun was tossed out the window of a car and went off. Bryant said when he went inside the building that night to talk with Jun, he found about 15 people still inside. This is a violation because the ordinance states no alcohol is to be served after midnight. Bryant said he also found advertisements on the wall advertising parties from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. The advertisements indicated people attending could bring their own botde of alcohol to be consumed after midnight. Bryant said he understood after talking with Jun that night that he had the establishment leased out to a promoter providing rap music at these parties. Cain asked Bryant if he saw any alcoholic bever ages other than beer when he entered the establish ment. Bryant said he did not see anything other than beer. Barefoot asked Bryant if he observed any money being exchanged for beer. Bryant said he did not. Cain asked if the sheriffs office had received any calls to MVP prior to this night and Bryant said they had not. Jun said he has cancelled all the contracts with the rap promoter and has changed his hours back to his restaurant hours. Jun said, “I am sorry to bring all of you here.” The promoter told Jun he had done this before and Jun said he called the previous business owner and they said it was O.K. “I did not know this was illegal,” Jun said. Jun said he has put in some pool tables and he wants to make the MVP Cafe a family cafe. Some 36 people attended an open house Tuesday night held by the Georgia Department of Transportation to seek input on a bridge project in Lula. The plans call for replacing the bridge over State Route 52 in Lula and straightening the road. The bridge is being moved upstream and a new section of State Route 52 will be built to cut out the curves and hills in the current roadway. The new bridge will be 1,000 feet long and will have shoulders. “The current bridge was built in 1955 and has no shoulders so if you break down there is no way to get out of the lanes of traffic,” said DOT spokes man Teri Pope. Pope said the most frequent comment the DOT gets is how soon the project can begin. “That is a difficult question,” Pope said. “With our budget crisis, we are going through a prioritization process on every DOT project, including this project.
