Beasley went 4-4 from the line netting four points for the effort. Amy Sims picked up three for Banks and Laura Pickens and S. Kennedy each scored two points. Basketball continued from page IB Ruth said he was proud of the team after the guys gave everything the night before in the game against Rabun. Banks trailed in the first quarter as Jackson County slipped by 9-7. The Leopards responded in the second quarter with 14 points and took the lead 21-18. Playing strong in the third quarter, Banks maintained their lead as Jackson County picked up nine points, 38-27. During the final eight minutes, Jackson County made five three pointers and drew within winning distance of the Leopards. According to Ruth, the boys responded by coming out hard and refused to fold under the pressure for the win. Banks drew five charges during the game. Ruth said that in the final quarter of the game he was worried a little bit after Jackson County stepped up and scored 23 points. “They got within three points in the last two minutes, but we stepped up,” said Ruth. “Ryan Griffin stepped up to the free throw line and shot eight in the final quarter.” Griffin went six for eight from the line in the fourth quarter. According to Ruth, the win was a big confidence booster for the team. C. Armour and Griffin led the team scoring 14 points apiece. Hudgins sunk three three-pointers and totaled 11 points. Duncan and Lovelace each scored six points, while Daniel rounded out the scor ing putting up four points. Union County “We just came out on fire,” Ruth said. Union County made the trip to Homer, Tuesday night as part of the crossover games between the sub-regions for 8-AA. After the 60-37 loss, Union probably wished they had stayed home. Banks out- scored Union the entire game, and came out to a forceful 18-2 lead after the first quarter. The Leopards made 16 offensive rebounds, 19 defensive rebounds and forced 26 turnovers. According to Ruth, the team played well and its press was working perfectly. Ruth’s new offense that he began this year is starting to show options for the team, evident by Tuesday’s game. Going into the second eight minutes with an 18-2 lead, Banks County did not show any signs of slowing, putting up 13 more points to extend their lead to a com manding 31-11. Union County started a rally in the third quarter, adding 14 points, but it was too little too late as the Leopards tallied 16 going 47-25. Focusing their aggression around the goal, Banks held Union to only 12 points and sailed to a 60-37 win. C. Armour once again led the Leopards with 18 points. Duncan controlled the team’s fastbreak and played a great game as the second leading scorer with 15 points. Daniel rounded out the top three scorers with 14 points. Hudgins added five points to the effort followed by Redmon and Griffin with three apiece. Griffin also lent five assists. Lovelace dropped in two points. BCMS WRESTLING BCMS takes second at Flowery Branch The Banks County Middle School grapplers are holding their heads high with good reason with a 7-1 overall record and after a second place finish in the Flowery Branch Invitational Tourney on Saturday. Out of the 32-man bracket per weight class and the 17 teams, the BCMS Mat Leopards finished just behind first place Chestatee. Flowery Branch finished third. Banks County had two first place fin ishes: Mason Patton in the 102-pound class and Hayden Dilbeck in the 138- pound class. Second place finishes came from Taylor Wood, 78 pounds; Blake Reynolds, 225 pounds; and Casey Meirburg, 285 pounds. The Mat Leopards had six third place finishes. Kyle Ruark, 84 pounds; Tyler Beezly, 114 pounds; Kelsey Ayers, 126 pounds; Wes Faulkner, 132 pounds; Phillip Dean, 176 pounds; and Jeremy Gosnell, 185 pounds. Placing fourth was Mathew Dilbeck, 126 pounds; Ty Ewing, 195 pounds; and Logan Free, 210 pounds. On Dec. 2, the boys beat Hart county 68-6. Up next for the BCMS grapplers is the home match against East Hall, Dec. 18. The match is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. JV BASKETBALL JV teams defeat Jackson County BY JUSTIN POOLE The Banks County Junior Varsity bas ketball team hosted Jackson County on Saturday. Both the girls and boys team won. The next game for the JV Leopards is Dec. 16, against Rabun County at 4 p.m. The JV Lady Leopards will restart after the holiday break against union County on Jan. 9. Girls The JV Lady Leopard defeated Jackson County’s JV Lady Panthers 37-20. Banks County took an early lead and held Jackson to only 10 points per half. Banks led 13-10 at the half. Assistant coach Megan Williams said that an ex cellent defense, especially from fresh man Sarah O’Kelly, contributed to the Banks County win. Both teams picked up six points in the third quarter, but in the final quarter, the ladies trumped Jackson County scoring 18 points and holding Jackson to four points. “We attribute our win to an excellent defense, few turnovers, and rebounds,” said Williams. Leading the offense for the JV Ladies was Deasha Beasley with nine points. Ashley Morris and Madison Franklin followed, scoring eight points apiece. Boys The JV Leopards followed the girls’ example and took a 49-26 win over Jack- son County. Jumping out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter, the boys outscored Jackson County every quarter. Banks was up 25-12 at the half and moved out to a commanding advantage of 35-18 in the third quarter. Jackson County picked up eight points in the fourth quarter, but it was nowhere near enough as Banks scored 14 points and secured a 49-26 victory.
