BANKS COUNTY & HIGH SCHOOL ® Dollar General opens Maysville store Dollar General has opened its Maysville store, at 25 Newton Street. A grand opening was held Dec. 6-7. The new 9,014-square- foot store employs approxi mately six to 10 people. The new Dollar General features a fresh layout, de signed to make shopping easier and simpler for cus tomers. Some of the store’s new features include a per manent treasure hunt sec tion, seasonal products fea tured in the center of the store, easily recognizable departments with visible signage and greater conve nience to the coolers located at the front of the store. Lula reschedules public hearing BY JUSTIN POOLE The City of Lula had to postpone its public hearing on the budget. Due to the court case that was ongoing during the scheduled time the hear ings has been scheduled last week, city manager Dennis Bergin rescheduled the two budget hearings for Dec. 15. The first meeting is sched uled for 1 p.m. with the sec ond public hearing at 6 p.m. before the regular council meeting. OTHER BUSINESS During a called meeting on Nov. 26, the council ap proved changes to the low bid contract for the con struction on the Veterans’ Park. With the changes to the construction contract the city will save an esti mated $115,000. The initial total cost of the project was $357,000. Vans are available to trans port veterans from Jefferson and the surrounding coun ties to Athens every Tuesday. Transportation is also avail able to the VA medical center in Augusta. Caregivers may also ride with their loved ones. A per mission form must be com pleted by calling Sinclair Jackson at the VA clinic in Athens at 706-227-4634. The DAV is also seeking volunteer drivers, who don’t have to be veterans. Drivers must complete a free physical exam and background check.
