THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008 THE BANKS COUNTY NEWS PACE 9A Church CHURCH MUSICAL HELD Two large gatherings of worshippers filed into Don Stewart Hall at Homer United Methodist Church Sunday, Dec. 14 and Monday, Dec. 15, for the church’s Christmas musical “Noel - Night of Everlasting Love.” The Chancel Choir present ed the musical and some sixty participants of all ages were in it. The program followed a din ner on Sunday and fellowship and refreshments followed it on Monday. The church continues its celebration of Advent Sunday, Dec. 21, with a 9 and 11 a.m. worship service. The Advent will con clude Wednesday, Dec. 24, with a “Christmas Eve Holy Communion” service at 5 p.m. The church pastor, the Rev. Jim McLendon, will preach at all three services and the Chancel Choir and other musicians will perform. The church is located at Sycamore and Church Streets. UPCOMING THIS WEEK “The Clothes Closet,” Commerce, will be open Sat urday, Dec. 20, from 8 to 11 a.m. Free winter clothes for the whole family will be avail able, leaders state. There will be sweaters, jackets, coats, long sleeve shirts, pants, fleeces, woolens, gloves, hats, children and in fant clothes and more. “The Clothes Closet” is also open every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. “The Clothes Closet” is lo cated on Scott Street next to the First Baptist Church of Commerce, 1340 South Elm Street. Jones Chapel Baptist Church, Commerce, will host a clothing drive/give away Saturday, Dec. 20, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. All proceeds will go towards needy families in the area. Community Baptist Church, Ila, will hold the fol lowing events: Sunday, Dec. 21, at the 11 a.m. worship the church choir will present the Christmas musical “Jesus, There’s Some thing About That Name.” Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 8 p.m. to midnight the 5th annual New Year’s Eve sing ing. “The Down East Boys” and “CS&K” will be featured. Maysville Baptist Church will begin its winter session of “Ladies Bible Study” Jan. 14, and will run for eleven weeks. CHAMBER CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST Banks County Chamber of Commerce executive director Tara Fulcher (L) and chamber members Mildred and Ray Bellamy are shown at the monthly breakfast meeting on Thursday, Dec. 11.
