FCCLA sponsored Christmas toy drive
The Banks County High School (Family, Ca
reer and Community Leaders of America) Club
sponsored a Christmas clothing and toy drive
for six children of Banks County families. The
coordinators of the drive were Megan Culbert
and Brianna Garrett, (freshmen), and Hollie
Trotter, (sophomore) and FCCLA members
at BCHS. Approximately 150 items of cloth
ing and toys were collected. Additional BCHS
Family and Consumer Science students also
participated in this drive.
The Christmas clothing items and toys were
given to the Generous Hearts Association.
Robin Trotter, director of Generous Hearts,
accepted these gifts for local children. This
drive is also part of a Families First project and
Chapter Showcase project for FCCLA mem
bers Elizabeth Rutan, Brittany Smith, Megan
Culbert, Brianna Garrett, and Hollie Trotter.
All of these FCCLA members will be par
ticipating in STAR Events (Students Taking
Action for Recognition) region FCCLA com
petitions in February 2009 at Madison County
High School.
The goal of this community service project
is to strengthen family relationships through
an FCCLA peer education programs. These
FCCLA members hope to help prepare fami
lies to better meet today’s parenting challenges
by providing knowledge of parenting practices
necessary to balance today’s families and ca
reers.
RECOGNIZED FOR ATTENDANCE
Banks County High School recently rewarded its attendance winners. The
school had 75 percent of its students who had perfect attendance for at least
half of Semester 1. Twelve students were chosen to win prizes. Shown are:

will be taught at both times.
The study will explore
scriptural teaching on what
it means to pursue excellence
in all areas of women’s lives,

will be published only once.

as JPEG or TIFF files are
welcomed. Photos of poor
quality, such as those sub
mitted on computer paper,
may not be published.

new service/class or change

For every week a student
has perfect attendance (all
day), their name is entered in
a drawing that occurs at the
end of the semester. The more
a student is present, the more
times his/her name is entered
in the drawing.
“Ultimately, the more a
student is at school, the bet
ter opportunity he/she has to
be successful in classes,” said
graduation coach Lynn Suggs.
The funds for the prizes
come from the Georgia Ap
palachian Center for Higher
Education (GACHE) grant
the school received earlier this
school year.

place for second semester.
