Death notices
Peggy Baugh
Peggy Roquemore Baugh, 62,
of Alto, died Saturday, December
20, 2008, at New Horizons West
Nursing Home in Gainesville,
following an extended illness.
Born in Lamar County, she was
the daughter of the late Ralph and
Hazel Griffin Roquemore. She
was a financial advisor for 38
years and worked for the Federal
Reserve for 36 years and was in
Alto for the past 3 years. Mrs.
Baugh was preceded in death by
a brother, John Roquemore. She
was a loving wife, step-mother,
sister, daughter and aunt, loved
ones stated.
Survivors include her husband,
Robert Baugh, Alto; step-daugh
ter, Kendra Baugh Childers,
Gainesville; brothers and sis-
ter-in-law. Bill Roquemore,
Austin, Texas, Rick and Helen
Roquemore, Auburn; sister, Terri
Matthews, Macon; sister-in-law,
Karen Roquemore, Clayton; five
nephews; three nieces; and spe
cial companion, her dog, Kayce.
Funeral services were held
Monday, December 22, in the
chapel of Memorial Park Funeral
Home with the Revs. Franklin
Gibson and Jon Beck officiat
ing. Burial was in Memorial Park
Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be

Research, Houston, TX.

'Dumpy' Cruce
Johnny J. “Dumpy" Cruce, 59,
of Maysville, died Wednesday,
December 17, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, he was
the son of the
late Thomas
Alvin and
Doris Gaynelle
Shelton Cruce.
He was a main
tenance worker
with Vulcan
Materials Rock
Quarry.
Survivors include his wife,
Teresa Cruce, Maysville; sons
and daughter-in-law, Gary Cruce,
Chad and Casey Cruce and Marty
Cruce, all of Maysville; sisters,
Mary Ledford, Homer, Lonie
Pressley and Dora Griffin, both
of Jefferson; brother, Jesse Cruce,
Maysville; and grandchildren,
Caden Cruce and Hailey Cruce.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 20, in the
chapel of Evans Funeral Home
with the Rev. Winfred Bingham
officiating. Burial was in the
Walnut Fork Baptist Church cem
etery.

'Tony' Grant
David Anthony "Tony" Grant,
59, of Baldwin, died Monday,
December 15, 2008, at his resi
dence.
Born on January 13, 1949,
in Toccoa, he was the son of
the late J.C. and Tonnie Lillian
Kessler Grant. He was a gradu
ate of South Habersham High
School, was a member of the Mt.
Airy Lodge #141 F&AM and
the Mountaineer Shrine Club, a
Scottish Rite Club. He was a life
time member of the Whittington
Gun Club and was the co-owner
of G & L Automotive for 30
years.
Survivors include his sisters
and brother-in-law, Wanda and
Mickey Watkins, Cornelia, Alice
Kay Grant, San Antonio, Texas;
and a brother, James Charles
Grant, Baldwin.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, December 18, at
Whitfield Funeral Home South
Chapel with the Revs. Terrell
Simmons and Paul Bryson offi
ciating. Burial was in the Level
Grove Cemetery with Masonic
grave rites provided by the Mt.
Airy Masonic Lodge #141.

Larry Hubbard
Larry Hubbard, 64, of
Maysville, died Tuesday,
December 16, 2008, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of the late Bennie
and Katie Mae Ward Hubbard.
He was a member of Ridgeway
Baptist Church and was employed
as a styrofoam molder.
Survivors include his wife,
Janice Faulkner Hubbard,
Maysville; a son, Tim Hubbard,
Maysville; daughter, Kim Mabry,
Homer; brother, Curtis Hubbard,
Oakwood; and grandchildren,
Cade Hubbard, Emmett Mabry
and Camden Mabry.
Funeral services were held
Friday, December 19, at the
Homer United Methodist Church
with the Revs. Jim McLendon
and Mike Faulkner officiating.
Burial was in Jackson Memorial
Gardens.

Roberta Jackson
Roberta Jackson, 74, of
Cornelia, died Friday, December
19, 2008, at the Habersham
County Medical Center, follow
ing a sudden illness.
Born on September 14, 1934,
in Forsyth County, she was the
daughter of the late Robert and
Lizzie Smith Dodd.
Mrs. Jackson was the mother of
Diane Gosnell, Eddie and Faye
Jackson, all of Alto; and sister of
Betty Eubanks, Ruth Tomlin and
Martha Dodd, all of Alto.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, December 21, at
Whitfield Funeral Home.

Jeffrey Booth
Jeffrey Todd Booth, 45, of
Nicholson, died Saturday,
December 20, 2008, at St. Mary's
Hospital in Athens.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of Bobby and Peggy
Adams Booth of Nicholson. He
was the owner of Auto Paint
Specialty and was preceded in
death by a daughter, Savannah
Lauren Booth.
Survivors include his wife,
Rhonda Nelms Booth, Nicholson;
son, Trevor Booth, Nicholson;
brothers, Tracy Booth, Commerce,
and Tim Booth, Jefferson; and
a sister, Tammy Standridge,
Nicholson.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, December 23, at New
Hope Baptist Church with the
Rev. Mike Stowers officiating.
Burial was in the Nicholson
Cemetery.

Talmadge Pless
Talmadge Johnroe Pless,
90, of Lula, died Thursday,
December 18, 2008, at The Oaks
at Limestone in Gainesville, fol
lowing an extended illness.
Born in Hall County, he was
the son of the late S.A. and Mary
Wright Pless. He was the former
mayor of Lula and a member of
the city council. He was a long
time member, deacon, Sunday
School Teacher, and song leader
of Enon Baptist Church. Mr.
Pless was preceded in death by
his wife, Lucy Chambers Pless;
and a son, Lamar Pless.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Ann and Pete
Kendrick, Gainesville, Gaye and
Ron Smith, Clermont; daughter-
in-law, Loraine Pless, Gainesville;
sisters, Lessie (Miller) Brewer,
Gainesville, and Doris Varville,
McLane, Va.; grandchildren, Lisa
(Dan) Doherty, Florida, Bobby
(Jill) Pless, Lydia Richey, Kathy
(Shannon) Davidson, all of
Gainesville, Todd Kendrick, Toas,
N.M., Jennifer (Scott) Cagle,
Clermont, Kirklyn (Rod) Wilson,

Nevitt Galloway
Nevitt Galloway, 67, of
Clarkesville, died Thursday,
December 18, 2008, at his resi
dence following an extended ill
ness.
Born in Toccoa on August 18,
1941, he was the son of the
late Harland Walls and Ola Irene
Shirley Galloway.
Mr. Galloway was the father of
Teresa and Billy Ford of Homer.

Grove Baptist Church with the
Revs. Mike Franklin, Dennis
Ledford and Charles Alexander
officiating.

'Tommy' Martin
Thomas “Tommy” Andrew
Martin, 55, of Gainesville, died
Thursday, December 18, 2008, at
Lanier Park Hospital, following a
sudden illness.
Born on February 6, 1953, he
was the son of Connice Jenkins
Martin of Hall County and the
late Thomas Roy.
Mr. Martin was the brother of
Judy and Bruce Price of Alto.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 20, in
the chapel of Memorial Park
Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil
Carpenter officiating. Burial was
in Memorial Park Cemetery.

James Carter
James Howard Carter, 87,
of Gainesville, died Friday,
December 19, 2008, at his resi
dence following an extended ill
ness.
Born in Banks County, he was
the son of the late
Culver Cohen and
Myrtle Hooper
Carter. He was a
member of New Holland Baptist
Church and retired from Miliken
in New Holland in 1986. He was
a veteran, having served in the
United States Army during World
War II in Africa and Italy. Mr.
Carter was preceded in death by
his wife, Charlene Clark Carter;
brothers, Billy Carter and J.B.
Carter; and a son, Stanley Lamar
Carter.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy
Leigh Carter, Gainesville; grand
daughter and husband, Nicki and
Jon Koppenaal, Duluth; grand
son and wife, Dustin Leigh and
Haley Carter, Lula; great-grand
son, Cohen Joseph Carter, Lula;
brother and sister-in-law, George
and Cecile Carter, Gainesville;
sisters and brother-in-law, Helen
Martin, Florida, Hazel and Brian
Lingerfelt, Gainesville; and
a number of other family and
friends.

Monday, December 22, in the
chapel of Memorial Park Funeral

in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lee Lewallen
County on
Lee Young Lewallen, 77,
of Gainesville, and formerly
of Cornelia, died Thursday,
December 18, 2008, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville.
Born in Banks
November 25,
1931, he was the
son of the late
Corbin and Violet
Williams Lewallen. Mr. Lewallen
had over 40 years of law enforce
ment experience, including five
years as the Chief of Police in
Clarkesville and several years as
security guard at Chestatee High
School. He served our country
proudly in the United States
Army during the Korean Conflict
and was Baptist. He also enjoyed
traveling and was an avid base
ball fan, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his companion
of 30 years, Gemilda Reynolds,
Gainesville and formerly of
Cornelia; step-daughter, Debra
Hill, Gainesville; step-sons, Jerry
Cantrell, Demorest, and Anthony
Cantrell, Clermont; sisters, Willie
Mae Crocker, Janice Hurt and
Geraldine Perry, all of Cornelia;
brother, Billy Lewallen, Cornelia;
special step-granddaughters.
Amber Hendrixson and Brittany
Hill; seven step-grandchildren;
several step-great-grandchildren;
and a host of other friends and
relatives.

Sunday, December 21, front
the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin
& Stewart with Revs. Danny
O’Kelley, Ernest Hunter and Roy
Lee Mitchell officiating. Burial
was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Nicole Hulsey
Nicole Hulsey, infant daughter
of Jackie and Curt Hulsey of
Lula, died Saturday, December
20, 2008, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville.
Miss Hulsey was preceded in
death by a sister, Caitlin Hulsey;
and paternal grandmother, Judy
Hulsey.
Survivors in addition to her
parents, include sisters, Kylee
Hulsey and Abby Hulsey, both of
Lula; maternal grandparents, Ed
and Carolyn Hilton, Oakwood;
and paternal grandfather, Barry
Hulsey, Lula.
Funeral services were held
Monday, December 22, at the
Hulsey Family Farm.
