School
Black History Month observed at BCMS
During the month of Feb
ruary, Ms. Kelly Whitaker’s
class at Banks County Mid
dle School studied famous
black Americans to celebrate
Black History Month.
The students gave presen
tations about famous black
Americans like Martin Lu
ther King Jr.. Rosa Parks.
Andrew Young, Dwayne
“The Rock” Johnson, and
Terry Allen (a NFL player
who graduated from Banks
County). All students were
involved with the perfor
mances.
Ms. Whitaker’s goal for
the students when she as
signed the project was to
learn about black history and
honor it during the month.
The students also prac
ticed public speaking in
front of about 100 people.
They presented their projects
in front of parents, siblings,
friends, and other classes in
the school.
Assistant principal Dr.
Faith Simpson said, “Ms.
Whitaker’s students did an
outstanding job on their pre
sentations. I was moved to
tears on several occasions.
I learned about important
people as well as grew to ap
preciate Ms. Whitaker and
her students even more.”
