Lady Leopards dominate Jefferson after slow start
BY RANDY CRUMP
‘There is always two games
The A Team girls added another win to
their record in Jefferson Saturday morning.
The Lady Leopards had a slow start but
turned it around for a 48-14 victory. The win
was the ninth for the Lady Leopards and they
remain undefeated on the season.
A mix up on the tip off by the referees
resulted in a basket for the Dragons made by
the Lady Leopards. That basket would mean
nothing to the team at the end of the game.
BCMS would go on to score 10 points in the
first period. The game was tied 4-4 with 2:20
to play as the Lady Leopards hit several bas
kets to pull ahead and the end of the period.
Abbie Franklin, Morgan Rylee and Gabby
Kennedy all contributed points in the first
period.
“We started out this game the slowest
offensively we have all season,” Coach Steven
Shedd said. “Our full court pressure did not
seem effective and our half court offense
seemed sluggish in the first half. Our shots
were definitely off in the first half as well.
There is always two games during the season
where you seem to have a lot of uncertainty
and that is the first game of the season and
the first game back from Christmas break.
You never know how the girls are going to
respond after having time off. We definitely
did not play our style of game in the first
half.”
The second period scoring paired the teams
off as being well matched. Jefferson scored
six points and the Lady Leopards five points.
Abbie Franklin hit a basket and Morgan
Rylee sunk a three point play to give the
Lady Leopards a three point lead going into
the half.
Scoring for the Lady Leopards exploded in
the third period and defensively the team shut
the Dragons down. The team only allowed
two points for Jefferson and scoring 22 points
to take a commanding lead. Franklin scored
eight points, Rylee scored six points, Queen
Scott scored five, Mallory Parson scored
three to seal the lead.
BCMS continued to dominate Jefferson as
they went scoreless in the fourth period. The
Lady Leopards put 11 points on the board
in the period to finish the game ahead by
34 points. Abbie Franklin, Morgan Rylee,
Mallory Parson, Andrea Harris and Lauren
Parr scored two points each. Jaylyn Lack shot
one of two on the free throw line.
“We went in at halftime with only a 15-12
lead,” Shedd said. “After halftime, our team
definitely kicked it into a higher gear and began
during the season where
you seem to have a lot of
uncertainty and that is the
first game of the season and
the first game back from
Christmas break.’

to play our style of basketball. Everything that
was not working in the first half began to click
and work very well in the second half. We
outscored Jefferson 33-2 in the second half to
take a 48-14 win. I am extremely proud of the
girls for making the halftime adjustments and
picking up this victory.”
The Lady Leopards play the next two
games at home against Elbert County and
West Jackson on Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m.

Jefferson's Dragons
fire past boys A Team
BY RANDY CRUMP
The Banks County Middle
School A Team Boys
Basketball Team played a
tight game against Jefferson
Saturday morning. The
Leopards were scoring right
on the heels of the Dragons
every period but couldn't find
that magic moment to propel
them past Jefferson 43-33.
The Leopards opened
the contest with a three
point shot by Blaze Turner.
Jefferson answered the
points with a steal and drew
the foul on a shot under
the basket which tied up
the game 3-3. The Dragons
would find momentum and
take the lead by the end of
the first period 11-9. Zac
Orr scored six points in the
period for the Leopards.
Jefferson pulled the lead
out to 22-17 by the end of
the second period. Zac Orr
would continue to score for
the Leopards, with six more
points and Kamal Wiley
added two to the board for the
Leopards to finish the half.
The Leopards trailed by five
beginning the third period and
that lead would grow to nine
by the end of the period. Blaze
Turner, Zezmon Steeple,
Logan Hubbard and Zac On-
scored two points each in the
third period.
BCMS continued to fight
Jefferson and could only cut
the lead to seven at best before
the end of the game. The
Dragons scored nine points as
the Leopards could only scrap
up eight in the final period
to beat BCMS by 10 points
