Joe Alvin Brown, 73, passed
away Friday, July 28, 2017.
Mr. Brown was the son of
the late George A. Brown and
Geraldine Harrison Phillips.
He was a member of New
Emmanuel
Church and
also a member
of the Wind
er Masonic
Lodge. He was a United States
Army veteran and made his
career in law enforcement with
the Winder Police Department,
Phillips Correctional Institute
and the Barrow County Sher
iff’s Department.
Survivors include his wife,
Julia Carter Brown; children,
Travis (Sandy) Brown, Joey
Brown, Lisa (Bill Steed)
Brown, Debbie (Charlie) Gree-
son; brothers, Carlos “Pee
Wee” (Dot) Brown, Ricky Phil
lips; and eight grandchildren.

65, passed away July 29, 2017.
A native and lifelong resi
dent of Barrow County, Donald
was the son of the late Herbert
and Irene McClellan Casper.
He was a former owner of P
& H Mechanical of Winder.
Donald was a 1970 graduate of
Winder-Barrow High School,
where he played on the foot
ball team as a tackle and was
a member of The Church at
Winder.
Family members include the

He was born July 29, 1943,
in Piedmont, Ala., the son of

Army and was

prises as a truck driver. Mr.
Coffia was preceded in death
by his parents and his brother,

Mann, 99 passed away Sunday,
July 30, 2017.
He was a member of Winder
First Baptist Church and The
Men's Sunday School Class.
James was a
United States
Army veteran
and served
in the Philip
pines during World War II. He
later retired as a Master Ser
geant in the Army National
Guard. He spent most of his
life as a carpenter working for
several companies including
his own. He was member of
The Masonic Lodge.
James was preceded in death
by his parents, John Smith
Mann and Lillian Brown Mann;
his first and second wife,
Claudene Eavenson Mann and
Pearl Mann; and 10 brothers
and sisters.
Survivors include a daugh
ter, Brenda Meyers, Alpharetta;
a son, Wayne Mann (Brenda),
Conyers; sister, Gladys Sams,
Forest City, N.C.; eight grand
children; and 16 great-grand
children.
Funeral services will be at 2
p.m. Thursday, August 3, in the
chapel of Smith Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends
from 12 until 2 p.m. the day
of the service. Interment will
be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 4,
in The Georgia National Cem
etery, Canton, with military
honors.

Mrs. Moore was born in
Commerce, the daughter of the
late John Calvin and Angie Lee
Leachman Moore. She was a
member of Jefferson Holiness
Church and retired from Blue
Bell. Mrs. Moore was preceded
in death by her grandson, Tyler
Dunn.

sister, Johnny Lou Moore;
seven grandchildren, 11 great

her family.
Mrs. Mul

1949, the daughter of the late
Floyd and Lena Martin in Mat-
toon, Ill. On July 15, 1966,
Marty married the love of her
life, Mark L. Mullen. They
were happily and uncondition
ally married for 51 years. She
attended Buford First United
Methodist Church and was
previously a member of Park
Place Baptist Church in Pearl,
Miss. Marty enjoyed finding
the treasures of the past.. .from
reminiscing fond memories to
collecting antiques. Marty’s
passion was her family and
friends.
Survivors include her lov
ing husband, Mark Mullen,
Hoschton; son and daughter-
in-law, Mark, II and Carolyn
Mullen, Lake Dallas, Texas;
daughter and son-in-law,

two brothers.

Matthew Kevin Wheeler,
41, died suddenly on Monday
July 17, 2017, at his residence
in Statesboro, Ga., foilwing a
heart attack and COPD.
Matthew was born in Com
merce and attended Commerce
City Schools except for his
senior year, where he graduat
ed from Jefferson High School
in 1994. He then attended
Valdosta State University and
became a member of the Kapaa
Alpha Order and graduated in
1997 with a B.A. in finance.
Afterwards, he moved to Ponte
Vedra, Fla. and worked there
for 18 years working with
multiple banks and financial
institutions, including SunTrust
Bank, BBVA Compass Bank,
Morgan Stanley, the Jack
sonville Bank, First Citizens
Bank, and RFW Wealth Advi
sors. Matthew was a member
of Rotary International and a
member of Ponte Vedra Pres
byterian Church. It was not
until 2016 until he moved back
to Statesboro.
Survivors include his son,
Matthew Kevin Wheeler, II;
his daughter, Ella Morgan
Wheeler; ex-wife. Dee Anne
Wheeler; mother, Iris Wheeler;
father, Chuck Wheeler (Nich
olson); brothers, Bryan Keith
Wheeler (Jefferson) and Joshua
Kyle Wheeler (Statham); sis
ter, Kimberly Wheeler Ben
nett (Nicholson); grandmoth
ers, Betty Bolton and Nelda S.
