Money taken from Homer Baptist Church
Someone broke into
Homer Baptist Church last
week and stole $240 in cash
from the office desk.
A deputy found pry marks
on one of the doors at the
preschool, according to
an incident report filed at
the Banks County Sheriff’s
Office.

Other incidents reported
to the sheriffs office were:
• theft by deception when
a woman purchased a used
washing machine from a
man and it caught fire the
second time she used it.
She said he replaced it with
another one that stopped
working after one use. She
said when she contacted
him about this, he hung up
the phone.
• a woman said someone
used her credit card to make
a $999 purchase at a Target
in Norcross. She said she
still has the card and does
not know how it was used to
make the purchase.
• money was reported
missing from the cash regis
ter at a Banks Crossing fast
food restaurant.
•gun taken from a vehi
cle parked at a motel on
Eisenhower Drive at Banks
Crossing.
• a Maysville woman said
her vehicle was damaged
while it was parked at an
Eisenhower Drive motel.
• a Commerce woman
reported a domestic dis
pute and said her husband
“attacked her.”
•a man said someone
broke the window of his
work truck at a Banks Cross
ing motel. He said nothing
was taken.
•three bags of aluminum
cans stolen from an Elm
Street, Alto, residence.
• damage to two rooms at
a motel on Eisenhower Drive
at Banks Crossing.
•heater stolen from an
outside building at an Old
Hwy. 441, Baldwin, resi
dence.
• public drunk at a Histor
ic Homer Highway location
when a woman was yelling
and cursing and didn’t stop
after being told to do so by
deputies.
• a Brookshire Place, Lula,
man said his neighbor’s dog
bit him.
• prescription medication
taken from a Grant Mill Road,
Alto, residence.
•a Homer woman said
a man is stalking her at her
work place at a Banks Cross
ing fast food restaurant.
•verbal domestic dispute
between family members at
a Hwy. 184, Toccoa, location.
•an Alto woman said a
man sent a nude photo of
her to her grandmother. She
said she also believes that
he is trying to hack into her
social media accounts and
school online accounts.
• a Lula woman said she
is receiving harassing text
messages from her son,
daughter, granddaughter
and grandson. She said they
accuse her of murdering her
husband and having affairs
while he was alive.

erty damage between sever
al people during a domestic
dispute at a Damascus Road,

•trailer taken from a
Capes Bridge Road, Homer,
residence.
• check stolen from a
Yonah-Homer Road, Lula,
residence.
•harassing phone calls
A Homer teenager was
killed in a crash on July 26.
Tommy Gilbert, 19, died in
the two-vehicle wreck on the
1-85 North entrance ramp
off SR 82. Gilbert reportedly
attempted to turn left onto
the entrance ramp in front of
a tractor-trailer driven by Paul
Clevenger, 28, of Maryville,
Tenn. Clevenger’s vehicle
struck Gilbert’s Chevy Impa-

CAR DESTROYED IN FIRE
On July 25, units from Banks County Fire/EMS
responded to 659 Ridge Lane, Lula, on a reported
structure fire. Upon arrival, they found a 30 X 30
out garage well involved with fire. The fire was
extinguished and the structure was listed as totally
destroyed. Two vehicles and a motorcycle were
also a total loss. The residence had some heat
damage but only minor damage was incurred due
to “fire attach action” that protected the exposure.
A small brush fire, less than an acre, was also con
trolled by fire personnel. The garage was listed as
a total loss and no injuries were reported.
One-vehicle wreck reported
A one-vehicle wreck was reported last week in Banks
County.
On July 27, units from Banks County Fire/EMS responded
to 139 Buckeye Court, Commerce, on a reported vehicle
accident.
Upon arrival, they found a single car accident with one
patient trapped in the vehicle.
The patient was quickly extricated and treated on the scene.
The patient was transported by EMS to an Athens hospital in
Athens in stable condition.

Sealed Bids, for furnishing all materials, labor, tools, equipment and appurtenanc
es necessary for approximately 1.4 miles of grading, drainage and surface treatment
on John Morris Road and approximately .25 miles of grading, drainage and GAB on
Gowder Road will be received by the Owner at the County Commission Office located
at 150 Hudson Ridge, Suite 1, Homer, Georgia 30547, until 10:00 a.m., local time, on
August 14,2017, and then at said office publicly opened and read aloud.
The Project consists of the following major elements:
Approximately .25 miles of grading, drainage and GAB on Gowder Road.
All work shall be completed in accordance with Plans, Special Provisions, and the
latest edition of the Georgia Department of Transportation Standard Specifications,
applicable Supplemental Specifications, and the latest edition of tire Manual on Uni
form Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
The work will be awarded in one Contract.
The Instructions to Bidders, Bid, Contract Agreement, Drawings, Specifications and
forms of Bid Bond, Performance Bond, Payment Bond and other Contract Documents
may be examined and obtained at the following:

No response to inquiries other than those emailed will be binding upon the County.
The County reserves the right to issue written addenda to any inquiries that alter
the scope of the Invitation to Bid. Addenda shall be emailed to all bidders no later
than August 10, 2017, at 5:00 PM. A signed copy of any addenda shall accompany
submitted bids.
General Information
Payments, Applications for Payment, Certificates for Payment, and retainage shall be
in accordance with the provisions of tire Contract Documents.
The successful Bidder for this Contract will be required to furnish a satisfactory Per
formance Bond and Payment Bond each in the amount of 100 percent of the Bid.
Each Bid must be accompanied by a Proposal Guaranty consisting of a bond,
certified check, or negotiable instrument submitted with the bid as assurance that
the Bidder, upon acceptance of his/her Bid, will execute such contractual documents
as may be required within a specified time, in the amount of Five percent of the total
Bid.
The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all Bids, to waive informalities and
to readvertise.
