Recipe of the week: Sausage Squares
Andrew Wiley of Com
merce submitted the recipe
of the week. He states that
he makes Sausage Squares
every year for Christmas
morning breakfast and his
family loves it. He adds that
“it’s a rather simple recipe.”
SAUSAGE SQUARES
Ingredients:
•2 cans Pillsbury Cres
cent Recipe Dough Sheets
(can also use crescent rolls)
• 8 oz. Cream Cheese
•2 cups Sharp Cheddar
Cheese
• 1 lb. Sausage (whatever
brand you like)
Directions:
First preheat oven to 350
degrees. Than place one
dough sheet in bottom of a
9x9 Pyrex pan, make sure
it covers the bottom com
pletely. Next cook sausage
and drain. While sausage
is draining, add your cream
cheese to the same skillet
and melt over low heat. Add
sausage and stir to coat.
Then, pour evenly over
dough sheet. Cover with
shredded cheese. The,n
add the second dough sheet
to the top. Finally, bake 20-25
minutes or until golden
brown. Let cool five minutes
and cut into small squares. E

State Route 63 bridge opened
to traffic on Monday Aug. 7
The new bridge that carries State Route 63 over Middle Fork
Broad River opened to traffic Monday, August 7. The former
bridge was constructed in 1962 and was posted with weight
limits prior to the replacement.
Traffic has been using an onsite detour bridge for several
months while construction of the new structure was complet
ed. The new bridge is located beside the former State Route 63
bridge, and is elevated approximately five feet higher.
This project was awarded in February of 2016 to Talley Con
struction Company, Inc. of Rossville, for the contract amount
of $3.2 million.

45 th annual
holiday
festival
planned in
Homer
Homer will hold its 45th
annual holiday festival on Fri
day September 1, and Satur
day September 2.
Vendors will be set up by
noon on Friday.
“Come enjoy the food, arts
and crafts and have a tons of
fun,” state leaders.
On Friday music from the
Pruitt Family and the Jordan
Family Band from Farmville,
will be featured along with
several special presentations
throughout the day.
Saturday a parade will be
held at 10 a.m. The partic
ipants will make their way
from the Banks County Ele
mentary School on Hwy. 51
down Historic Homer Hwy.
to the festival site.
A “street dance” will be
held Saturday night featuring
country music singer Daniel
Lee, coming back to Homer,
where he filmed the music
video for his song “Back-
wood Tobacco.”
The event will be held at
943 Historic Homer Hwy.,
Homer.
On Friday September 1, the
event hours are 12 p.m. to
10 p.m.
On Saturday, September 2,
the parade will begin at 10
a.m. and festivities end at 11
p.m.
“Booth space is available,”
state leaders.
Booth space is $75 with
electricity - deadline Aug. 1.

plans movie
and car show

Maysville is planning its last
movie of the summer “Middle
School..The Worst Days of
My Life,” on Saturday, August
12 at dark.
A car show will begin at 5
p.m. in downtown Maysville.
Concessions will be avail
able and events are free.

visit the Banks County Public
Library on Thursday August
17, from 12:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.
The library is located at
226 Hwy. 51 South in Homer.

about WIOA funded training
