tour to be
presented
The Banks County Histor
ical Society will present the
Historic Homer Haunted
Walking Tour on Friday-Satur-
day, Oct. 26-27. There will be
two tour groups each night at
6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Those who attend should
go to the Historic Courthouse
in Homer to purchase tickets.
Tickets are $10 for adults and
children 13 and under are
free.
The tours will last around
50 minutes on mostly level
ground. The tour will end
up at the Historic Jail where
participanhts will be able to
tour the jail and see the trap
door gallows.
There will be light refresh
ments served at the Historic
Courthouse where visitors
can also tour the courthouse
and museum.

Early voting under way for November election
Early voting for the Nov.
6 election will be held Mon
days through Fridays through
Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Voting will also be offered
one Saturday which will be
Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All early voting will be held
at the Banks County Election
Office, located at 226 Can
dler Street, Homer.
As of this past Monday
879 voters had cast a ballot
in person with 118 ballots
being mailed to the regis
trar’s office.
Races on the ballot
include the following:
•Governor: Brian Kemp,
Republican; Stacey Abrams,
Democrat; and Ted Metz,
Libertarian.
• Lieutenant Governor:
Geoff Duncan, Republican;
and Sarah Riggs Amico,
Democrat.
•Secretary of State: Brad

mote predictable judicial out
comes.
•Encourages the conser
vation, sustainability and lon
gevity of Georgia’s working
forests through tax subclassi
fication and grants.
•Provides rights for vic
tims of crime in the judicial
process.
• Authorizes fair alloca
tion of sales tax proceeds
to county and city school
districts.
Voters will also be asked
to select “yes” or “no” for
the following proposed state
wide referenda:
•Provides for a home
stead exemption for resi
dents of certain municipal
corporations.
•Provides a tax exemp
tion for certain homes for the
mentally disabled.
SCARECROWS IN THE PARK
Keep Banks County Beautiful sponsored the
fifth annual Scarecrow Spooktacular in Homer in
October. Scarecrows will be up until Nov. 3. The
location is in downtown Homer at the Veteran’s
Park and along Historic Hwy 441 within the town
limits. All scarecrows include recycled or reused
items, along with wood and straw.

Coroner Mark Savage named to state office
Banks County Coroner Mark Savage was recently chosen,
during the annual fall meeting, to serve as the 2nd Vice Pres
ident of the Georgia Coroner’s Association for the 2018-2019
term. This nomination was made and voted on by the mem
bers of the association. There are over 400 members of the
association that spans over 150 counties.
As 2nd Vice President, he will work closely with the Presi
dent and 1st Vice President to solve any issues that arise with
in the association. Also, he is responsible for organizing and
coordinating the agenda for the annual spring meeting for the
Association. In addition, he is the liaison from the Georgia
Coroner’s Association to the Georgia Sheriffs Association.
Since taking office in January of 2017, Savage has served as
a member of the Audit Committee and as a District Director
for the Association. In addition to his current role as 2nd Vice
President, he is also serving as an alternate on the Georgia
Coroner’s Training Council, a position he has held since
September 2017.
“It is very humbling and a huge honor to be selected by
the other Coroners to serve in this position. I look forward to
representing Banks County on the State level and serving and
working with all the Coroners in the state of Georgia. I am tmly
honored that my peers around the State have chosen me to
serve in this leadership position. “

Banks County coroner Mark Savage (second from right) was recently
appointed to serve on a state organization. Savage was named 2nd Vice
President of the Georgia Coroner’s Association for the 2018-2019 term. This
nomination was made and voted on by the members of the association.
There are over 400 members of the association that spans over 150 counties.
