Georgia announces
President’s Lists for fall
The University of North Georgia (UNG) President Bo
nita C. Jacobs has recognized students who achieved a 4.0
grade point average during the fall 2020 semester.
Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bache
lor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point av
erage were named to the President’s Honor Roll. Students
enrolled in associate degree or dual enrollment programs
who met the same level of achievement were named to the
President's List.
Local students named were:

MAYSVILLE ELEMENTARY RECOGNIZES STUDENTS FOR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS
Maysville Elementary School students in Courtney West’s Pre-K class, Katie Roper’s preschool class and Vicki
Allen’s kindergarten class were recently recognized for their participation in the school fundraiser. Principal
Michele Archibald presented the students with their crowns and they were the school’s king and queens for

Jackson EMC seeking applicants
for $1,000 scholarship opportunity
Jackson Electric Mem
bership Cooperative (EMC)
is accepting applications for
the annual Walter Harrison
Scholarship, which provides
$1,000 for academic ex
penses to students pursuing
post-secondary education at
Georgia colleges and tech
nical schools.
Applicants must be ac
cepted, or enrolled current
ly, as a full- or part-time
student, at any accredited
two- or four-year university,
college, or vocational-tech
nical institute in Georgia.
Student applicants must
live in a primary residence
served by Jackson EMC.
The scholarship is mer
it-based. and students are
evaluated on financial need,
grade point average, aca
demic standing, scholastic
honors and community in
volvement.
Applicants must complete
an application and submit a
biographical sketch with ed
ucational goals.
To receive an application,
students should contact their
school guidance counselor

Eleven students across
Georgia will be awarded
scholarships, which are
sponsored by Georgia's 41
electric cooperatives. Com
pleted applications are due
by January 22. 2021.
The Walter Harrison
Scholarship is named in
honor of a leader in the state
and national electric coop
erative movements.
Since 1985, $224,000
in scholarships have been
awarded to 235 recipients.
Judges select winners for
the Harrison Scholarship
each year based on a com
bination of need, academic
ability, extracurricular ac
tivities, autobiographical
sketch and recommenda
tions.

County students honored at ABAC
Students who achieved
academic excellence in their
course work during the fall
semester were recently rec
ognized at Abraham Bald
win Agricultural College.
Josiah Irvin, Alto, was
named to the President's
Honor List. The President's
Honor List is the highest ac
ademic honor possible for
ABAC. Each student on the
list attained an “A” in every
subject, resulting in a per
fect 4.0 grade point average.
The students had to carry a
minimum of 12 hours of ac
ademic work.
Halee Cash, Gillsville,
was named to the Dean’s
Honor List. Students who
qualified for the Dean’s
Honor List attained a min
imum grade point average
of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and
carried at least 12 hours of
academic work.
