The farmers market will be held at Veterans Park. The hours will be 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tues days. For vendor information, call 404-281-4928. Banks deputy saves student from choking A Banks County deputy recently saved a boy who was choking. Kindergarten student Jace Evans choked on a piece of candy while in the car with his father, Banks County Pri mary School Counselor Chris Evans. Deputy Brian Gil bert happened to be nearby, and the worried father quickly recruited his help. “It happened so fast... I looked over, he was grabbing his throat and he said I can’t breathe,” Evans said. “At that point he was turning red, almost purple... I said GIL BERT! Then he ran over there.” Deputy Gilbert provided the medical assistance Jace needed, and the soon-to-be first-grader was safe again. “I had been through training and CPR,” Evans said. “But that gives you a whole different perspective when that’s your child. If Gilbert had not been there, I don’t know what would have happened.” Because of his actions, Deputy Gilbert has received a letter of commendation. Action postponed on rezoning on McCoy Bridge Road Republican women to meet Aug. 1 The Republican Women of Banks County has re ceived its official charter as members of the Geor gia Federation Republican Women and National Feder ation of Republican Wom en. Georgia Federation Re publican Women President Pam Lightsey presented the charter to the Republican Women of Banks County Members then swore in of ficers. Officers are: Martha Ramsey, President; Vickey Thomas, Vice President; Amy Banks, Secretary; and Judy Sheridan, Treasurer. Ann Gordon and Michelle Ramsey were recognized as chairman of committees. She also presented the Georgia Senate Resolution 427 recognizing and com mending the club as they promote and inform the electorate through political activity. The meeting was well attended by members and ‘sister’ Republican Women of Hall County. The next scheduled meet ing will be Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Homer City Hall at 7 p.m. Homer Farmers Market set on Saturdays The Homer Farmers Mar ket will be held in down town Homer from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Farmers Market is held on third Saturday of each month. An application for a re zoning to locate a “storage yard for railway compo nents” was heard before the Banks County Board of Commissioners last week with action on the request being postponed until Au gust. Bryan and Tawana Wood applied to rezone property at the intersection of Hwy. 441 and McCoy Bridge Road from ARR to C2 to be used for a wholesale estab lishment with a special use for a storage yard for rail way components. Ms. Wood spoke at the BOC meeting and asked the application be withdrawn so that changes can be made to the request. It will be on the Aug. 1 agenda of the Banks County Planning Commission, and the Aug. 8 agenda of the BOC. Dining the public hear ing, two people spoke in op position to the request, in cluding Jeremy Harris who presented a petition with the signatures of 20 McCoy Bridge Road residents op posed to request. Harris asked, “How does this fit into McCoy Bridge Road? Nothing about it is agriculture. It is more in dustrial. It is going to be a scrap yard.” OTHER BUSINESS In other business at the June meeting, the commis sioners: •heard from Paul Ranck, who requested a school tax break for senior citizens. Commissioners told him that they don’t have the au thority to do this. •learned that a request from Bryan and Tawana Wood to rezone a 10-acre portion of the property iden tified as B51 025C, a 15.35- acre lot located at the in tersection of Hwy. 441 and McCoy Bridge Road, from ARR to C2 to be combined with the adjoining parcel for mini storage (Hudson River Storage) has been with drawn. •agreed to spend $15,600 for re-indexing records in Superior Court. The funds will be reimbursed as fees come in to the clerk of courts office. •approved the 2023-2024 Healthcare Contracts pre sented by human resources manager Arlene Ivey VBS TIME AT AREA CHURCHES MAILING LABEL A foam party was part of the events held at the Charity Baptist Church Vacation Bible School.
