Obituaries
Dale Wayne Banford
WINDER — Dale Wayne Banford, Winder,
passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, fol
lowing a heroic 10-year battle with appendiceal
cancer.
Dale was bom in Ohio,
where he graduated
from Jamestown High
School. He served in
the United States Navy
for nine years which in
cluded two tours in the
Vietnam.
Dale retired from the
United States Postal
Service after a 25-year
career. He actively
farmed most of his life
and was very proud of the family’s cattle farm in
Winder.
He enjoyed bonsai and growing flowers, plants
and especially Japanese maples. He was a collec
tor of antiques. He loved auctions, estate sales and
flea markets. Dale was an avid reader and history
buff focusing on Civil War, World War I and II and
Vietnam War history.
Dale was a member of Corinth United Methodist
Church in Winder, and he was open about his faith
and strong relationship with God. He was a mem
ber of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, and
served in several roles, including chapter president.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Kath
ryn and Harold Banford; and infant daughter, Kel
ly Grace Banford.
Dale is survived by his loving wife of 42 years,
Pat; daughters, Annie Banford (Adam) Hayes,
Dalton, and Jessie (Michael) Strickland, Fort Car-
son, Colorado; son, Joe Banford, Virginia Beach,
Virginia; grandchildren, Joe, Egan, Jack, Hudson,
John and Kathryn Elizabeth; sister, Shirley (Steve)
Larson, The Villages, Florida; and sister-in-law,
Kathy (Bill) Greer, Titusville, Florida.
Funeral service: Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at
2 p.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church, 689
Corinth Church Road, Winder, Georgia. Commit
tal service with military honors will be October 4,
2023, at 12:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cem
etery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton,
Georgia 30114.
In lieu flowers memorial gifts may be made to
Corinth United Methodist Church.

Lance A. Chapman
WINDER—Lance A. Chapman, Winder, passed
away on Monday, September 25, 2023, from com
plications due to cancer.
Lance was bom in
Barboursville, West Vir
ginia, in 1943. He spent
his school years in Hun
tington, West Virginia.
After graduation, he
served in the U.S. Air
Force, working with the Minuteman Missile Divi
sion.
After leaving the service, Lance and his wife,
Alice, moved to Georgia, where he was employed
with both Taylor Instruments, then ABB as a field
service technician.
Upon retiring, he enjoyed being a part time em
ployee at Hill’s Ace Hardware.
Later, he and his wife spent their time traveling,
enjoying motor coach travel and rallies and often
volunteering with Georgia State Parks, assisting as
campground hosts at parks all around the state.
Lance was an active member of St. Anthony’s
Episcopal Church in Winder.
Lance is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alice
Marie Chapman, Winder.
Funeral service: Sunday, November 5, 2023, at
10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s.

Richard Moretz “ Dick” Dailey
DANIELSVILLE — Richard Moretz “ Dick”
Dailey, 93, Danielsville, died Sunday, September
24, 2023.
Dick was a graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacks
burg, Virginia, and an active member of Epiphany
United Methodist Church in Vienna, Virginia, and
Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Huntsville,
Alabama. While living in Georgia, he attended
Danielsville United Methodist Church.
He volunteered in
many community orga
nizations wherever his
family lived. Mr. Dailey
was a lifelong student
who loved baseball, gar
dening and traveling.
In their 65+ years of
marriage, they lived in
New Jersey, Virginia,
Ohio, New York, Ala
bama, D.C. area, and
retired to Huntsville in
1985.
He and his wife enjoyed a 29-year association
with International Business Machines (IBM). They
worked with many IBM friends in the Apollo Sat
urn program that put Neil Armstrong on the moon
on July 20, 1969.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathi Dailey
Morgan (David), Danielsville, and Kim Erin Jack-
ley, Lavonia; one son, James Richard Dailey (Lau
ra), Huntsville, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Debbie
K. Dailey, Madison, Alabama; and sister-in-law,
Dolores Dewitt, Manahawkin, New Jersey; 10
grandchildren, Naomi Rose Haney (Skye), Michael
Robert Stoupa (Ashley), Alan Charles Stoupa,
Meghan Elizabeth Dailey Murdock (Lance), Zach
ary Thomas Dailey, Anna Mae Dailey Sullens (Ty
ler), Natalie Rose Dailey, Malorie LaShell Smith
Orme (Jason), Jennifer and Chris North, and Aun-
drea Geibler; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-
great grandchild; six nieces; and one nephew. He’s
also survived by Becky Dailey Dobbs and LaShell
Smith Dailey Watson, who were both special peo
ple in his life.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary De-
Witt Dailey; son, Thomas John Dailey; brother,
Hampton J. Dailey, and sister-in-law, Shirley Dai
ley; brother-in-law, John W. Dewitt Jr., New Jersey;
and sister-in-law, Glenda Parrish Dailey.
His family would like to thank all his exceptional
caregivers at Family Hospice of Athens and at The
Gables at Cobb Village in Royston.
A memorial service will be held later.

Roy Haggard
WINDER — Roy Haggard, 92, Winder, cur
rently residing at Magnolia Estates, left his earthly
home for his Heavenly home on Thursday, October
5, 2023.
He was born in Com
merce on February 13,
1931, and was a son
of the late Jewell and
Annie Cheek Haggard.
Roy served his country
during the Korean War
and enlisted in the Unit
ed States Army from
1950 to 1953.
He was preceded in
death by his wife of 67
years, Annis J. Haggard.
A resident of Barrow County since 1966, he had
attended the Winder First Baptist Church and was a
retiree of University Chevrolet of Athens, with 54
years of service.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Wiliam
D. “Bill” and Susie Haggard, Athens; daughter,
Kathy H. Dunsmore, Winder; grandchildren, Les
lie Dunsmore, Marietta, and Laura Dunsmore (Sam
Beck), Winder; great-grandsons, Isaac Janies Beck
and Dylan Roy Beck; and brother, George Hag
gard, Hoschton.
Graveside service with Military Honors: Sun
day, October 8, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Barrow Memo
rial Gardens with Pastor David Cox officiating
with Steve Shubert delivering the Eulogy. Serv
ing as pallbearers will be Leslie Dunsmore, Sam
Beck, Buck Wheeler, Doug Westmoreland, Jimmy
Brooks and Jimmy Compton, honorary pallbearers
will be Larry Cox and Jimmy Mewbom.

George Wayne Kleine
GAINESVILLE — George Wayne Kleine, 83,
Gainesville, entered rest on Sunday, October 1,
2023.
Mr Kleine was bom
on November 26, 1938,
in Indianapolis, Indiana,
the son of the late Edwin
and Juanita Kleine.
Mr. Kleine worked as
an independent com
mercial contractor for
40 years as well as an
agricultural and live
stock farmer.
Survivors include his
daughter and son-in-
law, Angela and Justin King, Hoschton.
In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Kleine, his
remains are to be cremated and there will be a pri
vate gathering.

Willie Ruth Lord
COLBERT — Willie Ruth Lord, 93, Colbert,
wife of 70 years to the late Narlin Milton Lord,
died on Friday, October 6, 2023.
A native and lifelong
resident of Colbert, she
was the daughter of
the late Troy Winston
Thompson and Ruth
Power Thompson. Mrs.
Lord was a member of
Colbert First Baptist
Church and had worked
as a seamstress.
Survivors include
her son, Jerry (Nancy)
Lord; grandson, Kevin
(Amy) Lord; great-grandchildren, Emma, Conner
and Hailey Lord; as well as other family members,
Danny (Diane) Lord, Alison Carter, Chirs Carter,
Jared Carter, Andrea Wall, Zack Bramlett, Jean
Lord Grubb, Bill Grubb, Billy (Rosemary) Grubb,
Clair Grubb, Nick Grubb and Brant Grubb.
Funeral service: Monday, October 9, 2023, at
2 p.m. at the Colbert First Baptist Church. Inter
ment will follow in Colbert Cemetery.

CJ Phillips
DANIELSVILLE — CJ Phillips, 85, Daniels
ville, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6,
2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Phillips was bom
in Danielsville on Au
gust 23, 1938, son of
the late Wiley Frank
lin Phillips and the late
Lillie Phillips. He was
an entrepreneur and
owner, operator of multiple businesses including
American Vans and was a United States Army vet
eran having served in Korea. Mr. Phillips was of
the Holiness faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his son, Micah Phillips; brothers, JO Phil
lips, WT Phillips, Junior Phillips, Jasper Phillips
and Steward Phillips; and sisters, Sara Daniels,
Gertie Mae Fowler and Bobbie Jean Hattaway.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Elizabeth Rol-
ing Phillips; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and
Penny Phillips, Danielsville; daughter and son-in-
law, Patricia and Cliff McSpadden, Winterville;
sister, Geneva Gordy, Danielsville; grandchil
dren, Tyler and Kristen McSpadden, Megan and
Taylor Davis, and CJ and Bronwyn Phillips; and
great-grandchildren, Hunter McSpadden, Teddy
McSpadden, Lily Davis, Bo Davis and Nico Phil
lips.
Graveside service: Monday, October 9, 2023, at
1 p.m. in the Danielsville Memorial Gardens with
the Rev. Marty Smith officiating. During other
times the family will be at the home.
