Mobile & Girard Railroad, has become the
Supervisor of the Montgomery A Kufau’a
Railroad. Go has put tlio track in flue
order.
Personal.
President Wadley, of the Central Rail
road A II inking Company, arrived in the
city yesterday, and shortly after wont
down the Mobile A Guard Railroad on a
tour of inspection.
Place of Meeting.
The Opera House has boon engaged as
the place in which to hold the mootings
of the Agricultural Convention, which
moots hero Tuesday. Wo understand the
price agreed on is $125.
Small Po.r.
We hour on authority there are some
ten or twelve cases of small pox in the
Hottlemcnt below Tuskogoe, Alabama
mostly among negroes.
Robbery at Auburn.
Railroad men toll us the warehouse nt
Auburn, Alabama, was broken open Wed
nesday night and robbed of two casks of
meat and two sacks of corn.
Sent (o ,/'iil.
Montgomery, charged with robbing
was sent to jail yostorday by Justice Shiv
ers, in default of $400 bond. Tho pre
liminary hearing takes place Saturday.
This is the case alluded to yesterday.
Meeting This Afternoon.
Tho members of tho Committee ou the
Agricultural Convention mo requested to
meet, at I p. u. to day, iu the Library
rooms, over Gridin’s store. Citizons
should signify to tho ward committees to
day tho members of tho convention they
desire to ontertaiu.
The Agricultural Convention and Hull.
Tho Agricultural Convention of Geor
gia moots in Columbus on Tuosday, and
will probably remain in session three
duys. Soiuo two or throe hundred dele
gates are expo tod. Ample arrangements
aro boiug made for the reception and ac
commodation of delegates.
A grand ball and supper are to be given
at tho Perry llouso Thursday night, iu
honor of the Convention. Tho ladies
have decided to furnish the supper them
selves.
The Demand for (iuano.
Wo do not think thero will be as much
sold in Columbus ns last year, but believe
tho requirement for othoi poiuts will
show au increase. Only standard ma
nures—those whose excellence has been
demonstrated. This is what we are told
by one of our loadiug guano merchants.
Ho has already received orders to donblo
his supply at 1 roy and in Chambers couu-
ty, Alabama tho two orders amounting
to about 1,000 tons. This may be an in
dication of what is to be done during tho
has over visited Columbus. They gave a
delightful entertainment. The lady who
personated “Mollie Plunket,” the nurse,
in “Divorce," represented her part splen
didly. After tho theatre closed, at her
room at the Rankin House she gave birth
to an infant. Her stage representation
has demonstrated she will make a oapital
nurse. Her husband is with the Wallace
Sisters, who aro expected here in two
weeks. The proprietor of the Rankin
House and the ladies of tho house are
rendering kind attentions. This is acting
a part which was not on the bills. She
must bo a saporb actress, for all who
heard hor Wednesday night were aston
ished to hear this news yesterday morn-
ing.
LOCAL Jilt J UPS.
—A legal tondor—a lawyer minding bis
own business.
—The “Amateurs" meet to-night for
rohoarsal, at the residence of Madame
Bailini.
—Yostorday was bright and cheerful as
the thought of confidence of a millionaire
when ho signs a check for fivo dollars.
—Young lady at tho postoflice, “if I
don’t got a lotter by this mail, I want to
know what ho was doing Sunday, that's
all.”
—Four marriages in high life, next
month, disturb tho equanimity of tho so
cial world.
—Including a circlo, whose radius is
two miles from the Court-house, Colum
bus contains 1A,000 inhabitants.
• —Tho cotton receipts of Columbus be
gin to full off rapidly.
—A bout from Apalachicola is expected
to-duy. Tho river is very full.
—It is a gratifying fuct that all our
churches are well uttonded, though wo re
gret to learn that tho salary of one of our
leuding and most popular pastors has
been largely reduced. This looks wrong.
—Would it uot bo bettor if our able
county Tux Collector would send theatri
cal'companies a receipted bill for collec
tion, instead of un order by officers to
lovy and distress their proporty, if the bill
is not paid. Thoatrioal managers have
feelings to wound. If the account is not
paii), then is time enough to levy.
A Hath or day Vinter and Spring.
Tho past winter, iu many respects, has
been one of tho gayest Columbus has over
known for years. Tho “Gorman Club"
have had delightful evenings on an aver
age twice a week. The “Mionnerchor"
have bad many charming entertaiumonts.
Wo have had quite a number of good
troupes in tho Opera llouso, and liavo
longed for inoro. Thus far wo have bad
a dearth of private parties, but the omis
sion is to bo supplied this spring. Four
or 11 vo are talked of for tho coming two
mouths, and in addition two public balls
are spoken of. The idou is to work hard,
and when labor is ended, as the shades of
evening grow on opuoe, to bo as gay and
jolly as wo can—then to laugh, ha ! ha!
our euros away, and “go it while we're
young.”
Her. Wesley J. Gaines.
Tho Macon Teleyraph, noticing tho
chango of locution of this ministor of tho
African M. E. Church from Macon to Co
lumbus, Hays of him :
Gaines 1ms douo a good work for his
church in ibis oily. When ho came boro
be found the church live thousand dollars
in debt. This ho puid off, uud iu addition
coUeotod six thousand dollars, which was
spout in completing the building. Ho has
always conducted himself woll, and 1ms
bad polities on tlio brain only ouce, ns fur
hs tho pub'io is advised. He is highly
esteemed by hia congregation.

Attention !
As my Address ou olomontary Amu-
en.Ti'RAi. Chemistry, teaching tho cheap
est and shortest moans for procuring uud
compounding mauuros, is enthusiastically
received and heartily endorsed by almost
every intelligent planter iu this section,
and that I may bo compensated in a meas
ure somewhat c.mmionsurato with the
acknowledged merits of the production
uud value of the information conveyed,
1 do from this date establish tho price at
A0 cents per copy. In consideration of
this change, 1 do hereby agree to re
fund the money to any farmer who, after
reudiug the production, will certify to me
he is not fully satisfied with the invest
ment. There is no slavery so hopeless
as that which compels a man to support a
family by the cultivation of poor laud.
Tho problem to bo solved by tho South
before we can hope for Agricultural recu
peration uud prosperity, is cheap and re
liable manures. The Address solves that
problem. I defy tho agricultural or sci-
entiilc world to disprove one fact or post-
tioh taken in tho Address.

quirer Office, whero copies can bo order

some cases than tho cost of manufacture.
Retail dealers should avail themselves of
