tribution of currency iu the border
Mates. Senator John 11. Gordon will take
charge of the bill, which will recommend
* "combined action of both National and
State authority in establishing bauks on n
specie basis, lie has received tho proir-
)M >d aid of severnl promiueut members
from the West.
i’be Senate Committee on Finance held
u special meeting to-day, at which n com
promise llnancial measure'was agreed up
on, to be reported to the Senate next
Monday. In its muin leatures the bill will
iii the amount of greenback circulation at
$382,000,000, thus legalizing the re-issue
of that portion of the $44,000,000 in legal
leaden reserve which is outstanding, and
making it part of the permanent circula
tion. 1'he amount thnt has been reissued
8 nd which is now outstanding is some
thing over $20,000,000. The bill will uIho
authorize free banking on the national
banking system, but will oontain a re
quirement that legal tender notes shall bo
retired from circulation proportionably
uS new national bank notes are issued.
This latter provision is regarded as a
measure of contraction; but the preced
ing authorization for keeping in circula
tion the twenty-six million legal tenders
that have been reserved, is considered a
Hub.stautial viotory for the advocates of
an increased volume of currency, who it
id understood will claim in the Senate
that tho principle haviug been thus ad
mitted as regards a portion of the forty-
four million reserve the whole of said
reserve should be nooordingly placed in
circulation.
Fred Douglass has been c locted Presi

here, which has branches iu nearly all tbe
Southern States. Dr. O. B. Travis, an
other colored man, has been chosen Vice-
President. Forty out of tbe seventy
clorks • -upioyed are likewise colored.
The ne-v t*o»rd of munagnuout appeared
boforo the il utse Committee on banking
and Cnrreu. y yesterday, and said it was
their desire to make the bank an institu
tion exclusively for colored people, and
which they would regard as their own.

A Glimpse of Interior Florida.
We mentioned yesterday tho return of
l)f. Dead and Mr. J. Potter Williamson
iroai their Bhootiug and liahing jaunt to
Florida.
Wo umlerutaad that these gentlemen
penetrated by a route before uuattempted
to Liko Kiubitume, within eighty miles
by direct Hue of the great unkuowu Lake
Okeechobee, uud wore ouly prevented
from advauciug farther by the Mckuons of
ouo uf tho party, Buperiudncod by the
impure limestone water they were forced
to driuk. Game, deer, wild turkeys,
ducks, uud fiaipun, and countless tinh
wore found by the aportHtuen.
On the shores of Lako Kissimme many
Indiana are living, aud the eouutry even
to within twenty miles of tbe greut inte
rior lake, as vet unexplored, is here and
(hero dotted with the shuutieH of white
cuttle ruisors.
It is n noteworthy fact that numerous
Indians from the w’oUern reservations,
from tho Creeks and other tribes, that
did not originally belong to Florida, may
bo found there now, haviug boon tempted
to its luxuriant regions by Ibeirabunduuce
and freedom from paleface molestation.
During the stay of the hunters upon
the bauks of L ike Kissimtue, uu old In-
dian chief with his daughter and son-in-
law took tea with them. Tho daughter iu
said to have beon an Indian beauty, form
ed aftor nature's best model and fashion
ed in perfect mold, according to the ac
count of one of tho party, who may be
rogarded as good authority upon the ques
tion of pretty women, while the son-in-
law. the proud husband of this young and
lovely princess, was a most magnificent
specimen of Indian manhood.—Savannah
