In the armory yesterday, jnat before tha company left, Prof. Davie, tha leader, waa presented by tha mam barn of tha Oo lnmbna Guards Brass Band with a beauti ful gold badge. Pendant from an arch is a goldau French born. The workman ship is very beautiful. Lieutenant T. W. Grimes made a vary graoaful little pre sentation speech. Prof. Davie has mads tha Guards' band one of tha finest in tha State. We notioe that tha band in La fay el to, Ala., has secured his aervioee for another month. An offiscr has positive instructions navsr to release a prisoner except by order of tha Hayor or marshal. The “Colonel” is a good oflkar, and our remarks entitle him to a hearing. We warn lothe to believe he would oppress any one. TheOoiasdrasGnards gave their second annual pienie yesterday at Belch's Ger dau. The company aidvhfl there at 8 e'eloek in the afternoon. The Oily Light Guards, as invited guests, aoofl followed, gome drilling an said, whan the two or ganisations, after mutual salutes, entered the beautiful grounds.',.' The Columbus Guards' Brass Band furnished delightful music. Then there was regular guard mount ing, and sentries were postad. The City Light Guards bad generously offered to share in this duty, but they were regarded as honored guests, and their oowteous proposition was defined. At sunsst the dress parade of (he bat talion took plaoe on tha river side of the Garden. Oapt. Shephard of the Guards commanded, and Lieut. The lost rays of tha sun gleamed o’er the tba distant heights and burnished the gloaming bayonets with silver, while tbs music of the stream mhigtsfi with the melody of the instruments, and the. bal conies of the build lags sad tha adjsoeot grounds ware crowded with the Monty and chivalry of Colombo*—alt forming a delightful contrast of coloring and a soens of picturesque attraction. Tha orders annonnoed Oapt. W. H. Willtkms of the Light Guards, “offiaar of the day;" and Lieut. O. H. Williams of tbs Guards, “officer of the Guard." Daneing during the day had bean goipg on in the large and spacious halL It was charmingly decked with evergreens and flowers, flogs and mottoes. At the farther end were tha words “Welcome to the Oity Light Guards." As the night grew on apaee the toll groves aad shrubbery shone with the mafljr head lights of Ohinese lantern*. Several large refleotors had been so planed as to illuminate tha grounds with the al most light of dsy. In front of the build ing and rear war* fired brillant flam beau and lustrous lamps ahsd thalr sheen of loveliness over graeeful forms wondering to and fro neath laafy bowers and amid meandering walks. At intervals lira-works, with brilliant glare, would rise athwart the darkened sky and describe graeeful eurves along the pathway of the night. In praam, strnwberriss aod other dell- eaeiss were furnished in abundenoe. Tha ball-room was filled with the beaqty and elegance of Columbus. An excellent band had baan provided and a piano placed upon the stage. 'The red and gray singled in pleasant movement with the rich drapery of woman’s attire, end bright salon and fascinating 'faces flashed be. fore the bewildered gais. Hardly had one alluring figure glanced before you ere another equally as enrapturing met the gase, until the form stood transfixed as an admiration point, and the eye was bewildered with visions of graoe and beauty. Every detail was perfect, Cud the en tire affair was a superb suoceas. At intervals ia the dance the Manner- chor Would sing, and their spirited rendi tion of the best airs of the Fatherland were reoeived with Relighted applause. As night drew on apace lb* throng in Ihe grounds increased. Hr. ltelch kept hi* braes band organ constantly giving forth its resonant strains, and tha dance kept on, and perfect order was main tained. Tbs fast was developed that those grounds are the choioest ones at whioh a successful pionio can be given.
