were drowned in the river near “Lovers’
Leap” some ton days ago, bare not yet

Mr. Jaoob Boland died at th* Bankin
Hons* lata Tuasday night. He was born
in Edgefield district, S. 0., in 1804, and
bane* waa seventy years of age. H* has
raaidad in this aeotlon some thirty years.
Hi* ooonpetion was that of a farmer.
During the latter years he has apant much
of hi* time in Mississippi. Hi* Ufa waa
on* of privaey, devoted to the intonate
of family and self. Ha was an honest
man and n good citizen. Higher praise
cannot bo given. He waa in religious
faith n Methodist. The only ohildren
that survive him are Mr. A. J. Boland
and tb* wife of Prof. James W. Byan,
proprietor of th* Bankin House. He
died peacefully, surrounded by ohildren
for safe keeping.

It is exceedingly donbtfnl whether 1,500
tons have been sold in the aeotlon whose
trade oomea to Columbus. Last year
4,000 tons were sold by Oolambus sgen-
oies. A great deal purchased by farmers
is now manuring the waters of the Chat
tahoochee river, and the creeks of this
and neighboring counties in Georgia and
Alabama. ^
