The undereigned propoeee to publieh in a
volume <tf 150 or mere payee, a work under
the above title, covering the period from the
eelection <f the locality for a '* trading town,”
in 1827, to the capture and partial deetruction
of the city by the Wilton Raid, in 1805.
The incidente will bt derived mainly from ite
newtpapen, which will be gleaned for thie
purpose with much care. It it believed that
moet of our eitieene would like to have euch
incidente in thie empact and convenient fo m,
and will encourage the undertaking to the
extent if the email amount atkedfor the work.
Each chapter will contain thort biographi
cal ekttchee or nodeet of the principal eitieene
mentioned in it, who have tince died. The
volume will alto embrace full information
concerning the churchet, factoriee, dx., now
exietmg.
We do not prqpoee to publith thie compila
tion with a view to making money, at the
email price atkedfor it will ehow. But at
the tame time we do not want to l"re money
by itt publication, and therefore we with to
limit the number if copice printed lathe de
mand for the work. With thie object in view,

a pamphlet bound volume, printed on paper
like the specimen sheet issued. A small,
