Summoned Before the Mayor.
About twenty youths “ went a wash
ing” in the river laat afternoon between
the Western Bailroad bridge and the Oity

Water Works on the Baet Common.
The big ditch on the east commons is
being utilized by the officers of tha Fire
Department. The stroet committee
plaoed a sand box, fifteen feet long, eight
wide and aix deep near the mouth of Bt.
Clair aewer. Last week it became nearly
full of send. Tha oity hands cleaned it
oat, and taking steamer No. 6 and plenty
of hose, under tha superintendence of
Chief Engineer W. H. Williams, tha emp
ty sewers near Mr. Dexter's residence and
school No. 3, were filled with water from
tha box. A steady stream flowed into it,
and after the two cisterns containing
about forty gallons of water had bean
supplied, the water bad not been lowered
half an inoh. Tha atreet committee in
lands patting another box a short distance
above to oatch the sand, and thus have
tbs one at the hurt of Bt. Clair strut, al
ways filled with clear water, with ita aur-
plaaaga running through tha uwer.
