A Rain Gauge.
At lost Columbus has one, and hereafter
wa can give correot reports of the
amounts of rain which fall, and keep the
reoord for reference. The matter of more
rain failing one year than another will
not depend upon the memory of tbo old
est ialiabitant; which, in nine oases out
of ten, is altogether wrong. This gauge
is one of the latest improved ones, and
was sent ont by the proprietors of the
Financial Chronicle of New York to Mr.
0. O. McGehee, their Columbus corres
pondent. It has been pla»d on the roof
of the Lowell Warehouse.
Grand Concert Today Night.
Our citizens have certainly an elegant
treat in store for them on next Tuesday
night. The “Old Folks’ Concert” promi
ses to be the most interesting entertain
ment ever given in this oity. The very
best vocal talent is engaged, and the
most beautiful young ladies will add a pe
culiar charm to the occasion. Svery fea
ture is so novel, and withal so elegan',
that we are sure a full house will attend.
The representation of statuary has
never before been attempted
here. Our sweetest girls will personate
the fair creation of “The Artist’s Dream.”
The “Declaration of War," by the Co-
tnsnobe Indians, is a wild, wierd scene,
making one feel strangely near “ye gen
tle savage." The managers have devoted
much time and trouble to perfeot their
closing, illuminated speotsole—“The
Vision of Jacob"—which will be incom
parably beautiful. The proceeds urn to
be devoted to liquidating the debt of St.
Paul's Methodist church. Bead the ad
vertisement. Every one should go.

oept a Pott reporter. The temple is a
two-story brick edifice, square built. It
f.-Aoes the East, is midway between Pins

this alleyway has been recently oanopiad

by Chinese hands, in a very neat and
thorough manner, whiob oonld hardly be
improved.
The new deeorations have been moetly
imported from China. They ohiefiy con

are a horse, a wild cat, a Chinese warrior
of giant stature, end a jolly old boy coat

an impression got by our reporter from

The undersigned proposes to publish, in a
volume of 150 or more pages, a work under
the above title, covering the period from the
selection of the locality for a “ trading town,"
in 1827, to the capture and partial destruction
of the city by the Wilson Raid, in 18G5,
The incidents will be derived mainly from its
-inewspapers, which will be gleaned for this
purpose with much care. It is believed that
most of our citizens would like to have such
incidents in this compact and convenient form,
and will encourage the undertaking to the
extent of the small amount asked for the work
Each chapter will contain short biographic
cal sketches or notices of the principal citizens
mentioned in it, who have since died. The
volume will also embrace full information
concerning the churches, factories, <£<?., now
existing.
We do not propose to publish this compila
tion with a view to making money, as the
small price asked for it will show. But at
the same lime we do not want to lose money
by its publication, and therefore we wish to
limit the number of copies printed to the de
mand for the work. With this object in view,
we issue this prospectus, inviting those who
desire copies of the volume to send in their
names •
The price will be one dollar per copy for
a pamphlet bound volume, printed on paper
like the specimen sheet issued. A small
number of copies will dfso be issued on a su
perios article of paper for $1 30 per copy,
Payable when the work is delivered, which
will be some time next Fall.
