The undtnigned propose* to publish, in a
volume of 180 or more page*, * work under
the above title, covering th* period from the
selection cf the locality for a “ trading town,"
in 1827, to the capture and partial destruction
<tf the city by th* Wileon Raid, in 1865.
Tha incident* will be derived mainly from it*
newtpapert, which will be gleaned for thi*
purpose with much care. It it believed that

incident* in this compact and convenient form,
and will encourage the undertaking to the
extent if the email amount aeked for the work.
Back chapter will contain short biographi
cal sketches or notices of the principal cititent
mentioned in it, who have since died. Th*

existing.
We do not propose to publish this compila
tion with a view to making money, ae the
email price aeked for it will show. Bulat
the same time we do not want to loco money
by it* publication, and therefore we wish te
limit the number of copies printed to the de
mand for the work. With this object in view,
we issue this prospectus, inviting them who
desire copies of the volygte to send in their
notnet,
The price will be one dollar per copy for
a pamphlet bound volume, printed on paper
like the specimen sheet issued. A email
number of copies will also be isiued on a su
perior article of paper for $1 30 per eepy.
Payable when the work is delivered, which
