They were unanimously elected. All

Mr. A. V. Boatrite then retired from
the chair, and Col. K. L. Mott took it.
He returned thauka for the honor con
ferred. He had deolined the oflo* at a
former meeting on ecconnt of businee*,
but yieldiog to urgent and pressing gene
ral solicitations he had accepted. He
would do all in his power to advance and
perpetuate the Association.
OOnaTXTOTIOM AMENDED.
Tba constitution w*n then read that
amendments might be made. The num
ber for a quorum was reduced from twelve
to nine, and n Finance Committee was
created.
The following, offered by Mr. Boatrite,
waa adopted : “That the price* on all
•taple dry goods, aa published by tbe
committee, (three members from each
branch of trade) shall be biudiog, tbe
members pledging themselves not to un
dersell without immediately making it
known to the Beoretary, who shall, aa
soon as pjaaible, make said new price
publio.”
The object of tbia amendment is to
provide agaiaat the ruinous practice of
merchants uuder-aelliog each other; thus
lofting money, and preventing accommo
dations to countrymen. All that ia in-
teuded ia to eatabliah a standard price, by
which th* merchant and cooaumer may
bo governed, and abolish a system of
nnder-oottiDg, by which the dry good*
men have suffered ao greatly.
For the last twelve months stand
ard goods have been selling at, aud
below, coat. This amendment simply
mans that all of the member*
111 adopt the prices of the Chamber. If
one concludes to sell lower, he must noti
fy the Beoretary, who will at once make it
known to all other members, when they,
t to, can oome down, and no one get the
advantage of tho other. If a non-mem
ber ohooaen to go under tbe established
rates the Chamber will adopt his, and
he finding that he oan gain no
advantage will stop the foolishness,
and tha trade ba established on a
busineas baaia. Tha object ia not to
advaooe prices, but enable dry goodi
merchant* come show for e alight profit.
Competition with neighboring oitiea will
always keep quotations at a reasonable
point. Ae soon as merchants can live
they can afford advaooca to tho country.
COMMITTEE ON TMB EIYSl.
On motion, Major A. M. Allen and
Messrs. O'Keefe and 0. E Hoohatrasser
were appointed a committee to confer
with t#a Commissioner* of the Oity
Council and tbe engineer in oharge of the

eaelatanoe and information in their
