Tho rental season Is approaching very
rapidly and will soon be here. Many
landlords of stores, with commendable
liberality, in view of the depresaed finan
cial condition of the country, have re
duced rents from twenty-five to thirty-
three per aent. Iielow tho rates now being
paid.
Why cannot owners of dwelling houses
adopt tho samo oourse for good and suffi
cient reasons? All classes are ooneerned
in this matter, and especially meohanics,
clerks, and lsborera generally, all of whose
wages have been materially lessened
Many are out of employment. There is
an abundance of houses for all to spare,
snd if tenants will not be too esger, snd
remain quiet for a time, they will get a
reasonable and just discount from tbe
present rates. Tha people generally are
poor, snd cannot pay high rents. Both
landlord snd tenant esn agree upon a
proper sum—sufficient to cover taxes, re
pairs, and a fair per oentage on the in
vestment.
