With Imllgnant denial, every true com

It Is time that hero and thorn, through
out tho South, our women havo erected
monuments, and annually they strew
Powers upon thn graves of our lost he
roes, a fit emblem of their own purity and
lovllneaß, and a beautiful tribute to thoir
silent defenders. Bong may tlio custom
bo observed to teach unborn generations
tho peveraped they owe the dofondors of
their country. But our duty does not stop
here, ami will not ond until wo erect to
their memory a boavon-pointod spire.
Hard times is a plea to be mot, and to do
so is the
OBJECT OF ori ABTICIiE
this morning.
Every one recollects the Inter*nt evinced
at our annual fairs on Tournament day.
Young men partlcljiativl In tho “tilt" far
premiums and tho right to crown thoir
choice. Who can doubt that they will ride
when tho proceeds of tlie entertainment
will go to isirpetuntlng the memory of
their fallen comrades. Our plea Is this:
Let the Ladles arrange for a tournament
at tho Fair Grounds before the buildings
are dismantled.
TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE
will attend, If the military companies of
Macon, LaOrangu and others can be In
duced to participate, on the same occa
sion, In a prize drill. This would nett five
thousand dollars. It will be a sufficient
reword for tho successful Knight to
crown his Quoon, and remember the cauee
for which he has done service. Wo would
like for the Ladles to take hold of the
matter, and wo respectfully invito sugges
tions, and promise to do all In our power
to bring alsait a practical result. At night
a coronation kill could bo held, and sev
eral hundred dollars more roalizod. When
the subject of hxiation of tho monument
arises, some large property holder will
glvo a large sum to place It noar Ills
oorner.
TO STABT
Is what Is needed. Savannah Is now re
ceiving a fine monument. Augusta has
already erected. What quostlon will as
sist tho ladles of our Memorial Associa
tion In this matter. They already havo
several hundred dollars loaned out at In
terest. Remember tho Tombola, which
sent to President Davis $2,730 in tlio hour
of his trial, and then we we were poorer
than wo are now. Honor your dead, and
In doing so, honor and vindicate your
selves.
