Tho following report from Com mittee on Cemotory was read and re ceived : That the complaint of the colored citizens against the colored Sexton Is bepond their jurisdiction, the present Sexton having authority to appoint his Sexton. Committee on Market rejiorted they had ronton the market stalls. Report received. Report of Committee on Police was adopted on motion of Alderman Blanchard. The report is as fol lows : Whereas, jSlnoo our last meeting, our Marshal and Chief of Police. M. \V. Murphy, has been killed whilst In the discharge of his duty, wo, the Police Committee, feel It due to that officer, whose bravery and efficiency has ever been appreciated, to express our aaproval of the conservative course and faitnful discharge of duty characteristic of our Marshal; be It, therefore, Resolved, That we offer to tho fam ily of the deceased the sympathy grateful hearts can only give ; that we iri common with the wiiolo Coun cil shall ever cherish his memory as that of a man who was true anu an officer who knew his duty and dis charged it; that they he spread on the minutes of Council. City Attorney, Chius. Coleman, sub mitted the bill drawn by Ids prede cessor, Chas. H. Williams, to length en the term of offices of tho city offi cials. Adopted, and ordered placed before tho Legislature. Dr. Flewcllen, City Physician, sub mitted his report. He recommended that a cheap grate bo placed in tho hospital, and that the hospital keeiier bo required to furnish lights; that a recortl bo kept in which to place names of patients. Now under treat ment in the hospital four cases, who arc convalescing. The city is free from disease of any character. Received; and, upon motion of Al dernan Blanchard, the Hospital Com mittee have authority to tuko action on his recommendations. The petition of tho Colored citizens, usking that hereafter two sextons be elected, one for the white and one for the colored cemetery. Ui>on motion of Alderman Blanch ard, tho rejiort was referred to the City Attorney, with tho request to draw a bill consistent with the provi sions of the i>etition, to be presented to the Legislature for its passage. Tho bid for furnishing medicine was awarded to A. M. Brannon, he agreeing to take the contract for thir ty-three and one-third ]>er cent, off the regular prescription price, and twenty i>er cent, profit on liquors. The bid of J. B. Wright & Cos. was accepted to do the city printing for tho year 1875, at $250. The following accounts wero pre sented, and referred to tho Commit tee on Accounts; Thomas & Prescott $359; Disbro & Cos. $21.21, Gas Light Couqvuiy $1,204, less teu per coot., Chas. Butler $2.75, R. Tho rules were suspended, and the account of Thomas & Presoott was ordered paid, if the Committee on Ac counts find it correct. Alderman Blanchard moved to ad journ until two weeks from date.
