Tlie Contest.
We wife unabl*‘ to gather anything
further regarding the contest <#f the; late

There has boon some talk 11 bout G<orge
Y. pond, the defeated candidate for Clerk
Sup*rhr Court, cop testing the cbxdion of
J. J. Bradford. We interviewed him on
the subjeitt, and lie authorizes us to say
for him that he does not expect to contest;
tliat when the matter was first mentioned
to him, lie thuuglit lie would “galkip with
the gang," but 4>n mature reflection lio
came U) tlio conclusion that if he had had
the chance b- woukl have voted every
man he coqld, and consrxiuently did not
Maine bis opponertf, even if there were
any illegal vote* ]xilb*l. He wrote to the
Governor, stating that ho had no com
plaint to make, and to issue Bradford's
commission. This Is the right view to
take of the matter, and it is praiseworthy
in our friend George not to join in making
any fuss about an olwtion where there arc
obliged to lie some illegal votes on each
side, from the very nature of the voters.
It is about as fair for one as another.
