a South Baltimore street ear, while
crossing th Baltimore & Ohio Bail

almost entirely, and throwing the

the front wheels of which crushed
both legs so terribly they will have

A MAN At CR DISKED FOlt MONEV AND
THROWN INTO THE DELAWARE RIVER.
Pailadelphia, April 9. A man
named Walter Abbot, a resident of
Tuekortown, N. J., came to this city
about two months ago. He was treas
urer of a building association, and
after ids arrival here he drew $1,700
from the bank. Subsequently he dis
appeared in nmisterious manner, be
ing last seen at Davis' hotel, at the
foot of Market street.. It was sup
posed by the people of Tuekortown
that ho had run away with the money
of the building association, and great
exertions wore made to discover ids
whereabouts. The case was put into
the hands of Captain Franks, of
the detective force, and a re
ward of SSOO was offered for the
man, dead or alive. Franks worked
energetically, but was unable to ob
tain the slightest clue as to the
whereabouts of the man. Last even-1
ing the body of a man was found I
floating in Delaware river by the cap- 1
tain of a vessel, and taken to Palmer
street, whence it was subsequently
removed to the Morgue; there it was
discovered that there was a long cut
on tin' loft side-the cut clean and
went t hrough the skin and several of
the ribs, and had the appearance of
having been done with an ax or sharp
knife. The face was not recognized.
The only clothing was a blue shirt
and t he upper part of a pair of gait ers.
The man appeared to lie about 55
years of age. Lieut, W. I’. Mears, of
the detective police, was sent for, aad j
upon looking at the body pronounced
it to be the body of the missing man
Abbott. Ho based his identification
upon the general appearance, and a
cut in the left thumb, which was
mentioned in the published descrip
tion of Abbott. Lieut. Mears di
rected that, the body be retained un
til an investigation could be made.
Furl tier developments will probably
be made.
