Tha yard of our Court Houao is now
looking its beat. Tho trena have fully put
out their loaves ami the grass is growing
beautifully. The yard is one of the pretti
est places in the city, and by the expendi
ture of a little money eould bo made really
beautiful. A lino crop of bine grass, a few
fountains, and some statuary, would make
of this yard as neat a tittle park ns the
ulty would want.
There is very little probability of sueti
improvements, and we will have to be eon

bestowed upon the place and which is
I>erhaps suflleient for all ordinary pur

have been successfully removed, and tho

braces and girders from above. The room
looks much larger, and spectators will not
now bo compelled to endanger their necks

progressing and rapidly approaching

Memorial Day Is almost upon us. The

late hour, but since they were so fortunate
In Immediately obtaining ar orator, and
have appointed efficient committees to
take charge of tile arrangements, ltseome
that all will work well, and the day prom
ises just as much interest as usual. It
would add a great deal to the appearance
of the cemetery if all who own lots would
have them thoroughly cleaned out, uud
put In perfect repair. Tills could bo done
at a very small ooßt. The Council commit
tee, which has charge of the cemetery, an
nounces that tho city carts will remove
any trash, or other obstructions, which
arc taken by private parties out of their
lots and thrown in the walks.
Our cemetery can, with propor care, be
made a beautiful place, and wo hope both
the city and all parties having lots in It
will manifest an Interest due to sucli a
hallowed place, and do all In their power
to make this “city of the dead" attractive
ami lovely. A beautiful, well-kept cemo
tery Is both an ornament and an honor to
any city, and negligonco in tho care of
"God’s acre," reflects sadly upon the
culture of any community. Much
of tiie horror with which death is view
ed is possibly attributable to the look
of sombre gloom and ghostly seclusion
which formerly hung about most of
our cemeteries. While it is eminently
proper that such places should be quiet
calm and undisturbed by the noise and
turmoil of the busy world, yet. there can
bo no objection to making them brightand
beautiful. They ought to bo adorned with
the beauties of art and nature; they should
be beautified by the hands of affoetion and
the resting places of those who were loved
and cherished in life should receive the
tenderest care which love and sorrow can
bestow upon them.
Though our people can raise no mighty j
piles of marble nor rear rich and gorgeous
mausoleums they can mark the spot
where loves and hopes lie buried with
more modest and more eloquent memo
rials.
We have an efficient sexton and if Ids ef
forts are aided by those of the citizens who
feel a special interest in our cemetry, it
can easily he made beautiful. It is an at
tractive spot now, but can be made much
more so. Let the good work of improving
and beautifying the hallowed place begin
at once.

Mayor'" Court.
Two cases were up yestertlay morning
for his Honor’s disposal. The attendance
upon our Mayor’s Courts has been drop
ping off for some time, and now the scenes
transacted there are done in tho presence
of very few witnesses. This want of spec
tators detracts somewhat from the general
interest of the court, and after awhile it
will be no fun to be before the Mayor.
John Rumsoy, they said, was drunk and
disorderly on Saturday, and did several
things which he ought to have left undone.
This accusation was not substantiated to
a degree calculated to produce certainty
in the mind of the court, and the accused
was dismissed.
Not so with Adeline Weaver. They had
the evidence on her too strong. She is a
colored damsel, and has a weakness for
drinking whiskey on Saturdays. Her lost
imbibation was ruth, r heavier than usual,
and even a constitution accustomed to
strong stimulants failed under its effects.
She ripped and tore on general principles,
and the Mayor lined her $3 50 for her fun.
When we left she was endeavoring to in
duce the authorities to place faith in her
financial condition and inbred honesty,
and to trust her for the sum they request
oil. Of the success of her plea we have not
boon informed.

A moderate price of admission will be

The ladies of the Memorial Association
find ft so hard to get contributions that
they ftro compelled to adopt a groat va
riety of moans to accomplish tho desired

in mind, at present, several kinds of en
tertainments, which they propose to give

hoped will meet with tho approval and
patronage of the public.
The committee appointed on tho matter
of entertainments have about decided to
have wlmt shall bo known as a “Cock
Hobin Ball,” in which ail the characters in
that famous tragedy will bo fully repre
sented with scenic effects seldom equalled.
Children arrayed in full plumage and
fixed up all right in every particular, (we
say this to be brief,) will personate all the
actors in that bloody and melancholy
transaction. The victim with his meek
expression, anil his red breast, made rai
der by his own manly gore; the assassin
with his deadly weapon, his bold disgust
ing confession of his own guilt, his fierce
look of triumph; the maker of the shroud
for the mutilated remains of ids departed
friend; tho solemn and sad performer of
the sacred rites of burial, with his look of
clerical dignity and conscious sanctimo
niousness; these and all others at all con
nected with tho “res gentie," will be pro
duced with unerring fidelity. The taurus
who tolled the mournful dirge for the de
parted, and the finny friend who so kindly
held his little dish to catch the spilling
blood, will be ruled out, wo suppose both,
because they performed offices of com
paratively small Importance, and because
great difficulty would necessarily ensue
upon any attempt to contort or enlarge
the proportions of childhood to an ade
quate expression of them. After the trage
dy is enacted there will be a children's
fancy party, in which a large number of
juveniles of both sexes, arrayed in the
most attractive costumes, will take part.
The entertainment will undoubtedly be
very attractive and novel.
The ladies propose to give it at the
Opera House at an early day. A small
price of admission will be charged, and of
course everybody will go. Tho man who
refuses to go to see anything that per
tains to Cock Robin the real Cock Robin
! of his childhood, with whom he has so
[ often sympathized- is destitute of ail the
| finer findings of human nature.

Yesterday was remarkably cool for the
middle of April. The wind blew all day
and winter clothing was pleasant. Very
early in tho morning a slight frost is said
to have been seen in some localities, but it
was too light to injure vegetation at all.
It was thought by some that it might frost
last night, but it is hardly probable that it
did. Ladies felt some anxiety for their
tender floral pets which the recent warm
weather tempted them to bring out. After
the dull, and almost sultry days we have
just had, the lower temperature and cool
j breezes of yesterday were quite refresh
ing, and we felt braced up even “as a

Bra.{field d* Cb„ Atlanta, Ga. -DearSirs:
I take pleasure in stating that I have used
for the hist twenty years the medicine you
are putting up, known as Dr. llradfie'ldx
Female Regulator, and consider it the
best combination ever gotten together for
the diseases for which it is recommended.
I have been familiar with the preparation
both as a practitioner of medicine and in
domestic practice, and can honest ly say
that I consider it a boon to suffering fe
males, and can but hope that every lady
in our laud, who may be suffering'in any
way peculiar to their sex, may be able to
procure a bottle, and their sufferings may
not only be relieved, but that they may be
restored to health and strength.
With my kindest regards.
