The children of St. Luke Sunday Keltooi
had a glorious time yesterday.
The excursion to Fort MitclioU was ms
Joyod by all, and will long be remembered
as a pleasant occasion.
Tho train of ten cars left a* eight o'clock
in the morning, carrying as many as could
bo well accommodated.
The excursionists passed Fort Mitchell
and went on to Soale, Here they remain
.l about half an hour. They then return
ed to Fort Mitchell, carrying with thorn
the Seale Sunday School.
The day was passed in pleasures of va
rious kinds.
A lino dinner was spread out about one
o’clock, and this was enjoyed by every- j
body. There was an abundance of the rich ,
repast. During the day a ploasant, little j
Incident occurred. The banner of the Sun-1
day School is given to tho class which j
contributes the largest amount of money.
The class of boys and young men under
J. S. Jones won It, by contributing twenty
two dollars during the past month. They
were awarded the banner. The following
is u list of tho members: H. It. Jewett, Ed.
•Palmer, Ed. Averett, Philip Bowers, Jos.
A. Harnett, T. E. Doubling, Hobt. Walker, .
Those J. Walt, William Thwoatt, Luther ,
Fraser.
With a spirit of generosity, they deter
mined to tender tt to the infant class,
composed of nearly sixty young children,
j Sir. Edward Palmer, on the |mrt of Mr.
Jones' class, offered the banner, with a
few appropriate remarks. It was grace
fully received by little Sfamlo Bowers, on
the part of the infant class.
Tlie ttehool returned to the city at live
o’clock. The rain was then pouring
down. Nearly everybody got wet, but no
body seemed to mind it. There were two
open ears on the train. The occupants of
these were compelled to take the shower
as best they could for the last ten miles.
The iluy passed off nicely, and tho chil
dren all looked as happy as butterflies.
They were safe In the hands of Rev. R. J.
Corley, tho pastor, and Mr. A. M Brannon,
the Superintendent.
Yesterday.
There never was just such a day before.
Columbus dust and Columbus wind seemed
to have entered Into a solemn treaty hi
torment the inhabitants and do us all the
mischief in their power. For two hours
Broad street was filled with dense volumes
of dust, and the wind blew with unusual
strength. Breathing was difficult, and
seeing was one of the impossibilities. The
streets were Siam clear of ladies, but the
pi Kir, patient men had to slap their hands
on their hats, button up their coats, anil
take it. Everything was dust-covered,
and everybody looked dirty. At times the
wind catnc so hard, anil tho dust flew so
thick, that a small sized tornado seemed
to be timidly venturing forth. Dry goods
merchants have got work enough for their
clerks during the, whole of this week in
getting tho dust off of everything. About
four o'clock a very hard rain set in; con
siderable hall was mingled with It, some
of the stones being half an inch in diame
ter. The sun shone out for a short time,
but later in the evening rain again set in
and continued steadily until late in the
day. Prospects lor fair weather to-day.
The rain has laid tho tons of dust that
flew everywhere yesterday, and there Ls
more comfort in life.

The citizens who reside on tlus lower
part of Oglethorpe, Jackson and Troup
streets say they don’t love to live in the
dark. The gas pipes do not extend down
so far, and on dark nights locomotion In
that vicinity is unpleasant if not unsafe.
There are several gullies and ditches
against the tumbling into which there is
no assurance whatever. Cows nestle gent-
ly on the sidewalks on dark nights, and j
the result is the semi-occasional sprawl of j
some unsuspecting pedestrian.
Those who reside in this gloomy part of
the city want light. They would like very
much to have gas. It will cost a consider
able amount to extend the gas pipes and
erect posts, and as Council recently re
duced the expenditures for gas, it is not at
all probable that gas will be furnished. If
gas is too costly these benighted citizens
would like to have kerosene street lamps.
They furnish very good lights and cost
very little. If these citizens want the mat
ter taken in hand and considered by our
city authorities, they ought to address a
petition at once to the City Council asking
that body to remedy the evil.

Mr. McLaren was a Scotchman by birth.
He came to this city about 1885, and was
for many years a member of the grocery

being a daughter of Mr. Elias Hull, of

K nnnwny.
Yesterday morning as the excursion
train with Ht. Luke Sunday School was
about to leave the Mobile A Girard Broad
street depot, the locomotive gave a shrill
whistle. This was fun for the children,
but it was too much for a horse owned by
a colored citizen named Whitley, which
was hitched to an express wagon near by.
He began to leave tiie vicinity of such un
earthly noises at a rapid rate. After run*
ning around for some time, coliding with
a tree box and damaging the express very
badly, he was captured ami quieted down.
Luckily for them, tho occupants of the ve
hicle had alighted just before the animal
commenced his antics. The express wagon
was the only thing that suffered, and it
suffered considerably. As this Is the third
: time this gentle stood has covortod on the
| streets, it Ls extremely probable that his
| talents fit him better for the plow than for
' a city express.

Jordan's Joyous Julep,
A Specific for Krunilgin.
I HAVE been saving a good dial through the
papers of late extolling JORDAN’S JOYOUS
JULEP as a most wonderful NEURALGIA CUKE;
but for fear you may exclaim as Shake pear e
when he said “You cram these words into mine
ear against the stomach of my sense,” I now sub
mit to you what persons say who have tried my
Neuralgia Julep, with the most complete ami
satisfactory result:
Columbus. January lf, 1875.
Mr.Jordan: —l take great pleasure in recorn
| mending your Joyous Julep for neuralgia,
I has produced a most wonderful relief in one 01
the severest attacks of neuralgia my daughter (
ever has had. She has been treated for it by'
three skillful physicians, with very little benefit,
and used all the usual remedies with little suc
cess. I can with much confidence hope for a per
! mauent cure. It is only two days since we began
; the use of it, and it is apparently of permanent
! benefit. Yours, with respect,
MRS. L. I. NORMAN.
Petkbsburg, Va., Jan. 15, 1875.
Jno. L. Jordan. Esq., Columbus, Ga.:
Dear Sir—Having learned through my friend
R. A. Bacon of your “J. J. J.” preparation for re
lief of neuralgia, and tested it with perfect suc
cess iu my own family, in the worst case, too,
that ever came under my observation, i now
enclose fifty cents for a second bottle, as I con
sider it too valuable a medicine to be without,
though I have no immediate use for it.
Very truly yours,
JAMES T. TOSH.
Columbus, Ga., Nov. g, 1874.
Dr. J. L. Jordan: Dear Sir—Your Joyous Julep !
for Neuralgia has been tried iu my family. w.A !
with the most happy result, and I find in it all you
claim for its virtue. And I unhesitatingly re
commend it to all who are suffering from Neural
gia os something a little remarkable in its cura
tive power. J. D. WORTHY.
Columbus, Ga.. Dec. 18,1874.
Dr. J. L. Jordan —Your medicine, Joybus
i Julep, is without an equal for Neuralgia. Having
i been a great sufferer from the pain, and having
: tried the prescriptions of many physicians, yet
j all proved of no effect until I tried four doses
of your Julep, when I was immediately relieved,
and have not been troubled since.
