Tho total cost of those repairs will bo about $2,500, and that sum has surely boon well applied. The wholo appearance of tho building has been changed and Improved. Tho office of the Ordinary has been moved to tho room formerly occupied by the Clerk of the Court, which Is more convenient, and con tains a line vault, where valuable papers muy bo kept with absolute safoty. The Sheriff retains Ids old quarters. The Clerk has his office In tho Court Boom, and It Is Just us convenient us possible. The old vault there has been rollttod and re paired, and Is a nice receptacle for books and papers. Tho Court Room Is now one of the neatest In tho Htato. Everythin!? is well arranged and has about it an air of completeness. Nico benches liavo been l placed on the outside of the bar for the accommodation of spectators, and they are so arranged that each commands a j full view of the Court Room. The Jury stand, Judge's stand, and the bar are placed well, and constitute a great im provement on the old arrangement. The little witness cage or bo* in front of the Judge's stand Is an innovation, anil has the effect of making a witness much more conspicuous. Tho effect of this arrange ment on timid men will bo very marked. The floor of tho room is covered with a superior matting, which is made of rattan and is said to be almost indestructible. The whole Interior of the building lias been overhauled, repainted and white washed. The walls of the basement, and tho tall pillars of each front, have received , a.eoat of now plaster and are much better ! looking. The old brick pavement around : the building is soon to be removed, and ] will tie replaced by the patent cement! pavement which Is to be seen at several points on Brood street, and which is so smooth and durable. The chain gang are now expending their energy on the yard and walks. Two of the olil mulberry trees have been cut down. The walks will bo raised and gravelled. The fence is receiving a coat of white wash, In fact overythng that Is needed is being done, and everything about the building and its surroundings Is being put In flue order. When the winding side steps are removed and a moans of access, provided in front, the work will lie com plete, and we will have a court house of which we may be proud, and which, in neatness of appearance and general con venience, will lie unsurpassed in the State. There is much being done for the rebel of the poor and the prevention of suffering in this county. Much is done which is never known to the world. The truest charity Is that which works in silence and which socks not the applause of the world for its good deeds. Wo often hear com plaints of a general close-Hstednoss among the people, but there are plenty of men and women in our midst who do a noble work for tho Indigent and needy. We also have an association, whose object is to help those among us who are truly in need. The Trustees of the Muscogee Asylum for tho Poor have, in the last eleven months, paid out no less than $3,500 for tho relief of the poor in this county. This is no inconsiderable sum, and as it has been applied by prudent men, it must have boon of great service. If every county in the Btiit<* hud such an institution there would be little suffering, and tho general condition of the people would bo greatly improved. A mooting of tho citizen* to take place yesterday morning l was called in both pa pers, but for somo reason it failed to come off. A few citizens were on the appointed corner at the hour, but there was not a sufficient number present to warrant any action. Several of our citizens fed very strongly on the subject for whose consideration the meeting was called, viz, the relief of the sufferers by the recent storms. This feel ing seems to be couiinod to a few, and no general interest was manifested. Per haps an effort will be made to raise an amount in the elty by private subscrip tion. Our people contributed very well for the relief of those who suffered ifrom tho March tornado, anti perhaps they do not feel able to give any more. Letters from the sections recently visited indicate that the people uro much in need of as sistance, and any help would be most gratefully received by them. We hope the needed assistance will be given from some quarter, and that tho effects of the calam ity will be lightened upon those who have suffered so much.
