Such a day of rustic pleasure and recreation will be enjoyed no little. On Thursday, 20th, Broad Street Metho dist Sunday School will go to Kingsboro. This is a largo and flourishing school, and its excursion will be one of the largest of the season. On Saturday, 22d, tho First Baptist Sun day School of this city will also go to Kingsboro. Our market affords fine variety now. Vegetables are coming in very fast and selling cheap. On yesterday we noticed blackberries and dewberries for sale at fifteen cents a quart. It Is very early for blackberries, and the price now asked is very high compared to that for which they can bo purchased after tho crop fully ripens. They are sold as low as seventy five cents a bushel in the summor months. Whortleberries were also offered for sale yesterday at twenty cents a quart. The fruit season seems to be somewhat earlier than usual. The crops of nearly all kinds of berries are said to be fine, and house wives are happy. Strawberries of the finest variety can now lie bought for twelve and a half cents a quart, while really good ones sell for ten cents. There is a fine supply of this delicious fruit in tho mar ket. One gentleman brought in ninety quarts yesterday. He says ho gathered much over a h und rod quarts from his vines at one time. This is an unusual quantity to come from one patch. Tho culture of strawberries and raspber ries seems now to bo roceiving much more attention than it formerly did, and we may look for a groat improvement both in tho quantity and quality of this lino fruit. It is to be hoped that fruit growing general ly will receive from our peopio tho atten tion its importance demands. Everything seems to bo adapted to tho growth of al most ail common fruits, and in a few years we may sec them all in successful cultiva tion. On yesterday, wo loarned that a homi cide occurred at Perkins’ Mills, In Ala bama, and on tho Mobile and Girard ltail road. He, accord ingly, wont to see the negro, with the in tention of inducing him to return to his service. Tho two had angry words about something, and the negro started toward Burch with a spade which ho drew back In readiness to strike him down. About fifty have been added to the church. The congregations are good during the week and very large at night. A protracted meeting has just been be gun at St. Paul church, and we hope it may result in t he accomplishment of much good. On Sunday night a meeting of the same kind was begun at Broad street Methodist church. This church has a field in which a vast deal of good may bo accomplished.
