At present the Investment Would be poor; at least it seems so to us. j- From the Atlanta Herald of Snn ■uv: At a meeting of the Atlanta Colton Exchange, on yesterday, Col. W A. Be.leli and My. T. The Committee on Information and Statistics were requested to make Inquiry and prepare a report of the Condition of the not ton crop in tile section tributary to Atlanta, taking the condition of the crop to be re ported about the Ist of July as the (basis of their report,; also to prepare a report of the movement of cotton In Atlanta during the season hegin ming September 1, IST J. Tlie following sensible article is prom the Atlanta Commonwealth: If Iran editor omits anything, he is lazy. Ml lie si teaks of things as they are, (people get angry. If he glosses over (or smooths down the rough points, he is bribed. If tie calls tilings by it heir proper names, lie is unlit for the position of an editor. If he does not ■ furnish his readers wit h jokes, lie is a mullet; if lie does, he is rattle headed, lacking stability. If lie con demns the wrong, he is a good fellow, but lacks discretion, if lie lets wrong i%nd injuries go unmentionod, he is a jjeowurd. If he exposes a public man, pho does it to gratify spite—is a tool of a clique, or belongs to the “outs.” If pie indulges in personalitie. , lie is a Hs dull and insipid. The lirst child lived twelve hours the others but a few moments, j The last born was the largest, and all were well formed children. The wo man had three separate and distinct labors.” —Ne\v.s came to a Covington lady last Monday that a fortune of sixty millions dollars had fallen to herself and mot her. It appears that a bache lor kinsman in Europe, who was im mensely wealthy, in his last will and testament left this enormous sum to this good lady and her aged mother. We trust, it the gentleman is dead, that the report is true. —The Sumter Ilepidilimn says: On Wednesday night, the 13th ot May, a colored man by the name of .John McCree, in the employ of Mr. J. -T. Siappoy. of Sumter, entered the sleeping apartment of that gentle man’s sister and daughter, between 10 and 11 o’clock. When discovered he was stooping at the foot of the bed pulling the covering from the persons of the occupants. This woke one of the ladies, and seeing the negro, she immediately gave the alarm. On hearing the ladies scream Mr. Blap pev ran to the room, but the scamp had escaped before tie reached the door and is now at large. We hope the scoundrel will soon be caught and brought to justice. —Meriwether County Pi ndieator: Hon. B. H. For one, we are willing that the Herald may have all the glory to be obtained from a vig orous campaigning in this direction. The same paper says: THE DAILY TIMES. “Mr. Simon A. Vl.tll.ttti NEWS. -Georgia does not seem to be alone in her complaints of hard times. The following mournful article is from the Opelika Timer: Never within the recollection of the oldest inhabitant has there ever been such a scarcity of money us now. The mails on Saturday passed on the limited express train, as pro posed by Col. Scott, making a saving of over one hour in the transmission ; but to-day they tvent both ways on the slow train. Outside of the Post Office Department it is stated that Mr. Hinckley, of the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Road, ob jects to the limited express train be ing cumbered with the mails, but the Post Office Department hns no ad vices upon tlie subject.
