I'OKLIGA.
London, .Tune 17.— The Times says
the French University education bill
as amended, makes a change of im
mense importance. It gives the death
blow to a system of educational des
potism under which a secular and
often skeptical body iias shaped
a higher teaching of young men who
tilled the professions and made the
laws of tiie country.
Malcolm, Hudson & Cos., Japan
merchants, No. 5 Crosby square, and
Anibal, Gouseales & Cos., merchants,
No. r. Palmerston buildings, have
failed. It is believed their liabilities
are not heavy. Their failure was
caused by the suspension of Alexan
der, Collie & Cos.
Dubun, June 17.—Generals com
posing the American Rifle Team have
been elected honorary members of
the principal clubs.
P.titis, June 17. The Assembly
passed the University Educational
bill by a majority of 54 votes. An
amendment of M Paris was adopted,
providing that degrees be awarded by
the Board of Examiners, which is to
consist of half of State und half of
free professors. This is regarded as
a victory for the Ultramontunes, as
free professors are clericals.
Rome, June 17.— Garibaldi’s bill for
the improvement of the Tiber passed.
The Ido Granite.
San Antonio, Texas, June 17.— The
Indian scout, under Col. Sliallor, that
was to leave Fort Cincho on the ROUi
inst. has been stopped by orders from
headquarters. No reason is given;
but it is generally believed here that
the expedition will be abandoned and
the troops ordered to the Rio Grande.
The men who stole the stage horses
and robbed the stage at Leon Springs,
eighteen miles from here, were over
taken by the citizens, ami after a run
ning light, one of the robbers was
mortally woundqjl and captured, and
also all the horses.
Later. — A dispatch just received at
headquarters from Washington, says
that a vessel of war has been ordered
to tne mouth of the liio Grande.
Unss Tweed.
New Vork, June 17.—The official
discharge of Tweed arrived from Al
bany last night, but at the request of
his counsel he will not be released
before Saturday, the object of his
counsel being to obtain the necessary
bail for the criminal suit to follow,
and thus permit him to return to his
family without again being confined
in jail.
Bull Tlnies in the (Shoe Business.
Montreal, June 17.—Business in
this city has been so slack that
several boot and shoe manufacturers
have shut down, and others are only
.working a small portion of their
hands. It is estimated that 5,000 em
ployees in this line .are out of em
ployment.

. ra.EBRATIOX OF TIIK CENTEXNIAI. AT
BOSTON YESTERDAY.
lloston, Juno 16. -The day opened
j gloriously with patriotic outhusiasm
; and touml the city crowded with
j strangers from all sections. The
! weather was cool and pleasant. The
j whole population of the city seems
to have turned out in honor of the
| day. Nothing lias been omitted to
eoinplete the grandeur of the occa
sion in commemoration of the cen
tennial anniversary of the battle ol
! Bunker Hill. All the public build
ings arc decorated profusely, while
private buildings and warehouses are
j adorned liberally with the red, white
| and blue. The festivities were
j ushered in with the ringing of bells
| in the churches and tiring at various
| points of national salutes. Early in
i iho morning the divisions of Massa
chusetts volunteers assembled on the
S Boston Common, where the line was
J formed and the divisions moved to
State House, where they were reeeiv
j ed by the Governor, members of the
| Legislature and city government and
! its guests.
i The column which wus under com
i tnaml of Major General Butler then
moved down Beacon to Dartmouth
street, where the civil organizations
i formed into line. The military re
; view was the most imposingspeetaele
| ever witnessed in Boston. Tuo grand
i procession of the day formed at noon,
uhder the chief marshalship of Gen.
' Francis A. Osborne, and by means ol
Ia corps of the signal service, all eou
j fusion in the procession during the
! march was obviated. The base of
the procession was at Dartmouth
street, and when it began to move
turned into Columbus avenue, which
thoroughfare was gorgeously decorat
ed. The appearance of the military
was simply grand and inspiring, while
the spacious sidewalks on either side
of the streets, and the doorways and
windows of the elegant houses were
massed with people, the whole pre
seutinga secneof indescribable gran
deur.
The procession was headed by a
body of mounted police and two
companies of the Fifth U. S. Artille
ry escorting the Chief Marshal, Gen.
Francis A. Osborne; next came the
Chief Marshal’s staff, followed by
bis Excellency and an escort; then
followed nine divisions, composed of
military from various States, distin
guished visiting dignitaries, and a
number of civic societies.
As the visiting military passed from
point to point '-especially Southern
soldiers they were received with a
perfect ovation. On the entire six
miles of the route there were cease
less demonstrations of cordial wel
come and good will manifested.
The Uarntt amt M'iiii Kadi-oml War.
New Yoke, June 17. — A Graphic
special from Baltimore suys the
agreemeut between Garrett and Scott
does not end the railroad war. What
it means is that Philadelphia and Bal
timore have combined against New
York. Secret clauses of the treaty
are understood to be aid against the
New York Central and the Erie. The
two Southern trunk roads propose to
wage war upon New York city
through its railroads. The war, in
the opinion of railroad men, has en
tered upon anew phase. Vanderbilt
was studiously left out of the confer
ence, as their intention is to injure
his road. It is believed here in rail
road circles that we are seeing the
beginning of the New York Central.
It is supposed the Erie will be soli I
out under its fifth mortgage bonds
and its stock wiped out, and the road
will enter the field stripped of stock
encumbrances and in a position to
aid in an attack upon the overweight
ed and watered stock of the New
York Central.
Weather Ntatement.
Washington, June 17. For the Gulf
and South Atlantic States, stationary
pressure and temperature, southwest
to southeast winds, clear and partly
cloudy weather.

except from your pr paration. Hhe was relieved
j by the second dose ns per directions, aud has not
' had a return of it for two mouths. To some 1
may sewn strangely sanguine about your modi

sonable to siippoae this malignant malady would
: have died ol' sheer exhaustion of capacity for
sustaining itself, and that too in a minute, ami
I the very minute your medicine was taken. If so
1 it is a most remarkable, simple coincidence, ami
I I prefer giving th credit iu your favor of the

lias produced a moat wonderful relief in one oi
the severest attacks ol neuralgia my daughter
ever has bad. She haa been treated for it by
three skillful phyaiciaus, with very little benefit
and used all the usual remedies with little suc

the use of it. ami it is apparently of permanent
