R.-Seven vyprions of the lowest order were sent to the chain-gang in Macon, •-Peaches oro flooding the streets of Atlanta, and yet Moore is not hui>- py, owing probably to the fact that they have not been distilled, and the honey crop is not good. —The Griffin .Veit* goes for Judge Warner with an irreverent hand, ii says the Judge would like to be Gov ernor, but the people are too mean for him to govern. jj. The Thomusville Entcrjir i.s<’ says. “We have the wind only olu poison- Jug case of some magnitude in a town, in which a colored acook dosed a dish of green corn with Israelite.” I —According to the Atlanta Hi raid |tho heat was so intense in that city lon Monday that the Macon train ivvas forced to come in on anotin r ■rack, the iieat having expanded tie- Irails so much that the switch could [not be moved. - "The sun drew about him a erim tson uiglitgown and went to bed upon fa eoueli of gold, and the moon smiled (complacently upon a cloudless sky." [The above is from the poetic lien of Col. Watson, now editing the Mayor’s [Court of Macon. We suppose he j ment bv Itis remarks that ii was hot, (dry and dusty. John Davies, of Tliomasville, has (an invention for milking cows, which (is claimed to be successful after a [.thorough test.. A small stiver tube is (inserted in each teat, and all the per [sen has to do is to sit on a stool, plae iingthe vessel underneath, ami the j milk will run out. tl.vitvtiv NEWS. -The Enfaulu Timer has suspend ed their tri-weeklv edition, and will hereafter only publish a weekly uii ! til better times. -Shrop, the bacon cater of Eufau la, is now feasting on some beeves that died from injuries received in fallingthrough a bridge. Hard times will drive a man to anything. —Col. W. H. Chambers, Grand Master of the Pat rons of Husbaudr y lias just made an extensive tour of the Hiate, and reports farmers as very hopeful of good crops. Planters all through the western, middle and up per portions of Barbour county say they have not had belter crop pros pects since the war than at present. Eii/aula Times. Tlie Radicals of Alabama appear to be making no nornin ifions for del egates to tlie Constitutional Conven tion. Their policy is understood to be to vote against the Convention when the question of calling it is sub mitted to the people, which will tie done simultaneously with the 'lec tion of delegates, and if they are de feated, then to vote against the rati fication of the constitution. —Again we are called upon to re cord the death of one of our most valued and highly esteemed citizens, Col. Washington Toney, which sad event occurred at his residence, five miles north of this city, on Tuesday night last. Col. Toney was about sixty-five years of age, and has been in bad health for several years, but not until within tlie last month was he forced to take his bed. He was a man possessed of many good quali ties and noble impulses. He enjoyed life, and contributed no little toward causing others to enjoy it also. The family of the deceased have all the sympathy and consolation of our people in their bereavement. Peace to his soul. Trotf Enquirer. Platform ot the Ohio Uemueraey. Colcmbi's, June 18. -The Demo cratic platform favors adherence to the principles of the fathers of the Republic: Opposition to aggressions of either upon the functions of co ordinate powers of the government, or the exercise of functions reserved to tlie people; protection to all citi zens, regardless of anything; one term and $25,000 salary ; no grants of money, credit or bonds to schemes; abolition of national banks ; issue of legal tenders to meet the wants of trade, and establishment of State banks of discount and deposit under State regulations; half of customs Paid in legal tenders; no currency but legal tenders ; complete separa tion of church and State, and no sec ular schools; continued tyranny and cruelty to Southern States denounced. THE DAILY TIMES. The New York Press n the Oh.o Hem \ oeraUr t orn ent 1011. New York, Juuo is. The Herald, referring to the Democratic Conven tion at Columbus, Ohio, yesterday, considers that it deserves more than ordinary attention, from the fact that tne Hopes of tlie parties in the great Presidential struggle next year will sink or rise in proportion to their suc cess in Ouio next October. If the Re publicans carry mo Suite they will uuvo arrested the great tidul wave, and will nave reinvigoruted tnat par ty fur tne Presidential campaign. U the Democrats keep all they gained lust year, the country will regard tne result us the knell of Republican as* ecu deucy. Ouio is the key of the Presidential campaign. TUo position of tne Democrats is eiubarrassiug, in consequence of their divided views on the currency question. Flic plat form is about as square-footed piece of inflation absurdity as could be ex pressed, but expresses tlie real views not only of the Democracy of Ohio, but of the Western States. The Herald considers, us things now look, that Grant saved the Republi can party by his veto of the inllutioii bill, thus placing the party on sound ground in relation to the most impor tant question of our polities. The Western Democrats repudiate the hard-money policy of their Eastern brethren, and a j arty divided agaiust itself on so important a question has no chance of success. Tlie Tribune says tlie Ohio Demo crats have struck out in favor of in creasing the volume of currency. They must stand or fall by that doc trine. The Tribune considers the Re publican platform on this question preferable, and that tlie tight ought to be on the currency plank. Tne World, uflor reviewing the linanciul planks of the convention, says it is not worth while to discuss the fiscal policy founded upon such ignorance and fabricated with such absurd incoherence. In concluding the World, says; Whethursoevcr the Democrats of Ohio and Indiana may wander, misled by tho hooting ot blind guides and the silence and cow ardice of guides who are not blind, nevertheless the Democrats of New York, Illinois and other States will travel in one direction, whoever goes with them orrefuses to go with them; and this is their guide quirt first, gold and silver the only legal tender vs. currency inconvertible to coiu; second, a steady step towards specie payment no step backward. • ♦- - vt vsiiiMi r.iv PETECTIVEK UNSt'CCESSKCI..
